Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infection may interfere in the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) in TB-endemic regions. However, the population-based incidence of NTM disease and NTM-TB coinfection remains unclear. We used Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database to identify new diagnoses of NTM disease and TB from 2005 to 2013 and calculated the incidence rate and the proportion of NTM-TB coinfection. ⋯ Male gender and old age were risk factors for high incidence of NTM disease. SES did not have a significant effect on the incidence of NTM disease, but rural living was associated with lower incidence of NTM disease. In TB-endemic areas, NTM-TB coinfection could disturb the diagnosis of TB and treatment, especially in elderly patients.

Percutaneous coronary intervention with the new generation drug eluting stents (DES) is 1 among the revascularization procedures required to treat patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Since late stent thrombosis and silent myocardial infarction are highly associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), an analysis comparing the newer generation DES in this specific subgroup of patients would be scientifically relevant. In this analysis, we aimed to systematically compare the cardiovascular outcomes observed with the ultrathin bioresorbable polymer sirolimus eluting stents (SES) versus thin, durable polymer everolimus eluting stents (EES) following percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with T2DM. ⋯ The ultrathin bioresorbable polymer SES were similar to the durable polymer EES in these patients with T2DM. These 2 types of new generation stents were comparable in terms of cardiovascular outcomes. Hence, they might be recommended in patients with T2DM. Upcoming trials should be able to confirm this hypothesis.

Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases in the world, with ∼100 million asthma patients worldwide. China has become one of the countries with the highest asthma death rate in the world. Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease. Patients with this disease may have symptoms such as cough, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. For many years, Western medicine has mainly used anti-inflammatory, anti-bronchial spasm, asthma, cough, and oxygen to treat this disease, but the effect is not good. Tuina is a common treatment for asthma in China. But at present, there is no systematic evaluation report on its therapeutic effectiveness and safety. This protocol aims to reveal the efficacy and safety of Tuina for treating asthma. ⋯ The systematic review will present reliable evidence to judge whether or not Tuina is a safe and effective intervention for asthma patients. There are conflicting data regarding the use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in COVID-19 hospitalized patients. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of HCQ in increasing SARS-CoV-2 viral clearance. Hospitalized adult patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection were retrospectively included in the study. ⋯ On day 14, 47.8% (14/23) patients tested negative in the HCQ group compared with 90.9% (10/11) patients who did not receive HCQ (P = .016). HCQ was associated with a slower viral clearance in COVID-19 patients with mild to moderate disease. Data from ongoing randomized clinical trials with HCQ should provide a definitive answer regarding the efficacy and safety of this treatment.

Vestibular disorders can manifest several patterns of horizontal vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) impairment, which can be detected by caloric test and video head impulse test (vHIT). Several studies have examined the patterns of caloric-vHIT response in Ménière disease (MD). The purpose of this study was to investigate the diversity of caloric-vHIT response and its related factors in unilateral MD patients. ⋯ The proportion of pattern II or pattern IV increased with the stage of unilateral MD. MD can manifest several patterns of horizontal VOR impairment, of which the impaired caloric response with normal vHIT is the most common pattern. With the progression of unilateral MD, the caloric-vHIT pattern tends to shift, which may reflect the deterioration of endolymphatic hydrops and vestibular hair cells impairments.
