To investigate the risk of mortality associated with exposure to codeine, considering various risk groups, using population-based national insurance claims data. National sample cohort data from the National Health Insurance Service of South Korea (2002-2013) was used in this case-control study. Cases were defined as patients with a death record between January 1, 2002 and December 31, 2013. ⋯ However, in the subgroup analyses, codeine use was associated with an increased risk of mortality in the >85-year-old age group (aOR 2.38, 95% CI 1.26-4.48) and patients with respiratory disease (aOR 1.29, 95% CI 1.17-1.42). Although no statistically significant association was found in codeine exposure and mortality risk between cases and controls, we demonstrated that the elderly over 85 years old and patients with respiratory disease are associated with a higher risk with codeine exposure. Therefore, a more cautious practice of codeine prescription in these groups might be needed.

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), administering fecal suspensions via a nasoduodenal tube, has achieved a promising effect in the treatment of intestinal graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in some pilot studies. In this study, oral FMT capsules from unrelated donor were used for the first time in the treatment of intestinal GvHD. Patient concerns: A 31-year-old male who was diagnosed as "myelodysplastic syndromes with excess blasts II" (intermediate risk 2 of international prognostic scoring system) received human leukocyte antigen -matched sibling donor allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The patient developed diarrhea, vomiting, and bloody stool on 28 days after transplantation. ⋯ There is still a possibility of recurrence after the treatment of GvHD with capsule fecal microbiota transplantation. How to optimize the dosage and treatment course of fecal microbiota capsule administration needs further exploration.

Quercetin, a major flavonol, wildly exists in plantage, which has been reported to have an anti-apoptosis and anti-inflammation effects on vascular endothelial cells, but its underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. ⋯ Results indicate that quercetin could suppress TNF-α induced apoptosis and inflammation by blocking NF-κB and AP-1 signaling pathway in HUVECs, which might be one of the underlying mechanisms in treatment of coronary heart disease.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death globally. Angina pectoris is closely associated with coronary artery insufficiency, which seriously affects the quality of life and work of patients. Hypercholesterolemia and hypertension (HTN) are risk factors for CHD angina pectoris. The correlation between hypercholesterolemia with or without HTN and the severity of coronary arteries has not been clarified. ⋯ Through clinical research data, the study will help to provide guidance for the prevention and treatment of CHD angina pectoris complicated with diseases and promote further research.
