This study aimed to determine the role of survivin in sepsis patients. Serum samples of 288 sepsis patients and 290 healthy individuals (as healthy controls) were collected 24 hours within enrollment. Serum survivin and inflammatory cytokines were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and biochemical indexes were recorded. ⋯ However, multivariate logistic regression revealed survivin was not an independent predictive factor for 28-day mortality, indicating it might interact with other independent factors to affect prognosis of sepsis patients. Survivin was decreased in sepsis patients and predicted decreased sepsis risk. Meanwhile, survivin was correlated with declined inflammation, reduced disease severity, and favorable prognosis in sepsis patients.

Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) threatens global public health. Poor access to health care due to financial hardship contributes to further transmission of the disease. The study aimed to:A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2 hospitals designated for MDR-TB from January to August 2018. ⋯ Households with MDR-TB patients shouldered a high financial burden which was mainly driven by direct medical costs and income loss in Guizhou. Greater catastrophic payments were associated with hospital length of stay and socioeconomic status, especially had a dose-response relationship with households income. Our findings suggest that financial and social protection of local policies for MDR-TB should be improved by preparing a uniform and comprehensive insurance package to cover sufficiently direct medical costs, and introducing social pro-poor assistance policies for risk families to protect them from financial hardship.

Wilson disease (WD) is an autosomal-recessive disorder of copper metabolism, which exhibits various symptoms due to the combination of environmental and genetic factors. Here, we report a WD patient who displayed distinctive symptom of nocturnal enuresis. ⋯ In this study, we proved that variants c.2195T>C and c.3044T>C is involved in pathogenesis of WD, and revealed that nocturnal enuresis may be a symptom of WD.

Surgical lung biopsy is regarded as the golden standard for the diagnosis of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs). Here, we attempted to show the diagnostic accuracy of multidisciplinary classifications based on transbronchial pathology including transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) , bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration biopsy (EBUS-TBNA). Patients with suspected interstitial lung diseases admitted from June 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018 were involved. ⋯ The diagnoses of 4 patients with progressed clinical feature were revised. As a result, 94.3% initial MDD classifications based on transbronchial pathology were consistent with the final MDD, and the difference of diagnostic yield wasn't significant between initial and final MDD (Z = -1.414, P = .157). Classifications of IIPs based on transbronchial pathology were useful and quite agreed with final MDD.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a serious nervous system disease, and the cause is not known. Sialic acid (SA) is an indispensable nutrient for early brain development. In previous study, it was found that the SA level of ASD group was lower than that of control group. ⋯ As evaluated through the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS), the levels of GNE were negatively associated with autistic mannerisms scores, social cognition scores and SRS total scores in the children with ASD (r = -0.314, P = .020). These results indicate that the GNE gene may be associated with autism spectrum disorder, and it is also related to autistic behavioral performance, such as stereotypical behaviors, autistic mannerisms, and social cognition ability. Our data suggest that future studies to explore the causal relationship between GNE and the etiology of ASD may be needed.
