The current absence of a disease-modifying treatment for Alzheimer disease highlights the necessity for the benefits of nonpharmacological approaches. We aimed to investigate the effect of exercise in older patients with Alzheimer dementia. This is an observational, prospective cohort study in medical center. ⋯ Moreover, the exercise group had significantly lesser unexpected hospitalization than the no-exercise group in the patients with mild dementia (P = .037). Despite the similarity in the status of dementia, exercise habit was found to be associated with a better senior fitness test score status. Hence, exercise can decrease unexpected hospitalization in patients with mild dementia but not those with total dementia.

There is currently a global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and its epidemic characteristics in the areas where the outbreak has been successfully controlled are rarely reported. Describe the epidemic characteristics of COVID-19 in Jingmen, Hubei, introduce the local prevention and control experience, and observe the impact of various prevention and control measures on the number of new cases. All the COVID-19 patients diagnosed in the municipal districts of Jingmen from January 12 to February 29, 2020 were enrolled in this study. ⋯ Wearing masks in all kinds of situations prevents most infections and is one of the most effective prevention and control measures. In conclusion, all people are susceptible to COVID-19, and older males and those with comorbid conditions are more likely to become severe cases. Even though COVID-19 is highly contagious, control measures have proven to be very effective, particularly wearing masks, which could prevent most infections.

In China, heat-clearing and detoxifying Chinese medicines combined with conventional therapy are commonly applied to treat the mild hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). However, there is lack of solid evidence on the efficacy and safety of such therapies. ⋯ In conclusion, the heat-clearing and detoxifying Chinese medicines on top of conventional therapy can effectively reduce the progressive rate of mild HFMD and improve healing of skin and oral mucosal lesions. More studies are needed for the time to fever resolution.

Liver steatosis could affect the accuracy of FibroScan in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study aimed to assess the accuracy and cut-off values of FibroScan for diagnosing liver fibrosis and cirrhosis in patients with concomitant CHB and NAFLD. A total of 116 patients with concomitant CHB and NAFLD who underwent FibroScan test and liver biopsy were retrospectively enrolled. ⋯ The cutoff values of FibroScan for staging liver fibrosis with sensitivity at least 90% were: 8.0 kPa for significant liver fibrosis, and 10.5 kPa for cirrhosis. The cutoff values of FibroScan for staging liver fibrosis with specificity at least 90% were: 10.8 kPa for significant liver fibrosis, and 17.8 kPa for cirrhosis. FibroScan provides high value for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis in patients with concomitant CHB and NAFLD.
