Few data are available on the effects of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) on risk of fall in over 80 individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We investigated the effectiveness of PR on the risk of fall in older as compared to younger than 80 individuals. ⋯ In individuals with COPD pulmonary rehabilitation reduced the risk of fall, while improving outcome measures independent of age, however, more than 50% of those over 80 were still at risk of fall. The pulmonary rehabilitation programs for individuals over 80 should include strategies effective in reducing the risk of fall.

Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is mainly the degeneration of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) associated with high apoptosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, which is accepted to be caused by the mutations in the subunits of complex I of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. The treatment is still infant while efforts of correcting genes or using antioxidants do not bring good and consistent results. Unaffected carrier carries LHON mutation but shows normal phenotype, suggesting that the disease's pathogenesis is complex, in which secondary factors exist and cooperate with the primary complex I dysfunction. ⋯ We showed that the downregulation of miR548c-3p plays a critical role in modulating cellular dysfunction and the apoptotic program of RGCs in LHON.

Meta Analysis
Nephrologist follow- up care for the AKI-CKD continuum and clinical outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) to chronic kidney disease (CKD) continuum will increase patients' risk of mortality and long-term dialysis. The aim of the present meta-analysis is to explore the effectiveness of nephrologist care and focus on the follow-up in patients with AKI. ⋯ Nephrologist care for AKI patients after a hospitalization significantly has reduced mortality compared to those followed up by non-nephrologists. There is a trend toward a potentially superior survival rate with nephrologist care has been going well in the recent years.
