In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic due to the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, and several governments have planned a national quarantine to control the spread of the virus. Acute psychological effects during hospitalization in frail elderly individuals with special needs, such as patients with dementia, have been little studied. The greatest distress manifested by these kinds of patients was isolation from their families during hospitalization. ⋯ Significant differences were found in all clinical variables of the caregiver group. Results showed a significant relationship in the quality of life score between the patient and caregiver groups. The results of this study has highlighted the importance of maintaining significantly effective relationships during the hospitalization period of patients admitted to COVID wards.

To investigate the characteristics of elderly-onset primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS) using chest high-resolution computed tomography and pulmonary function tests (PFTs). The data of 102 patients with pSS with interstitial lung disease were retrospectively analyzed. The chest high-resolution computed tomography, PFTs, and clinical and laboratory data were evaluated based on the age of onset: elderly-onset pSS (EopSS) (≥65 years) versus adult-onset pSS (AopSS) (<65 years). ⋯ Usual interstitial pneumonia is more common in the EopSS group. Although there is no significant difference in ventilation dysfunction between the EopSS and AopSS groups, small airway disease is more common in the EopSS group, while restrictive ventilatory dysfunction is more common in the AopSS group. Therefore, the EopSS group has its own characteristics and it is worth studying and noting.

Patients with heart disease often feel helpless and anxious because of illnesses in their vital organs. Unfamiliar environment of the intensive care unit is another factor that increases patient anxiety. This study developed audiovisual media-based information on nursing after open-heart surgery and evaluated its effect on patients' post-surgery, with the aim of reducing patients' environmental stress, anxiety, and uncertainty. ⋯ There was a significant difference in anxiety between the mean pretest-posttest scores, with 0.39 ± 0.35 points in the experimental group, and -0.05 ± 0.58 points in the control group (t = 5.165, P < .001). On the other hand, there was a significant difference in uncertainty between the mean pretest-posttest scores, with 0.39 ± 0.4 points in the experimental group, and 0.24 ± 0.48 points in the control group (t = 4.541, P < .001). This finding indicates that providing audiovisual information regarding nursing before open-heart surgery is effective in reducing environmental stress, anxiety, and uncertainty in patients.

The most common tubal disease leading to infertility occurs in the distal region, manifesting as hydrosalpinx. Tubal surgery is an effective alternative treatment. However, subpopulations that benefit the most from tubal repair surgery remain unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the natural pregnancy outcomes of patients with hydrosalpinx after reproductive surgery and those with different grades of hydrosalpinx. ⋯ Patients with mild to moderate hydrosalpinx will benefit more from reproductive surgery to improve natural pregnancy outcomes. However, the small sample size in our study needs to be further expanded, and the grouping needs to be more refined, such as grouping based on age. This may provide more guidance in clinical practice.

Multiple cholesterol granulomas of the breast: A case report and review of the literature.
Cholesterol granuloma of the breast is a rare disease defined as chronic reactive inflammation of cholesterol crystals and foreign body giant cells. This disease can mimic breast cancer in the clinic as painless palpable hard nodules, and imaging shows irregular hypoechoic nodules with unclear boundaries. Therefore, the uncommon lesions can be easily misdiagnosed as breast cancer. Meanwhile, it can be easily neglected by clinicians because of poor understanding. ⋯ By retrospective analysis, dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging and core needle biopsy can synergistically help clinicians distinguish it from other breast disease. To raise awareness of such a rare disease and reduce related misdiagnoses, we summarize the characteristics of cholesterol granulomas and recommend appropriate novel diagnosis and treatment regimens for patients with cholesterol granulomas.
