Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Bimekizumab in patients with psoriatic arthritis, naive to biologic treatment: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial (BE OPTIMAL).
Bimekizumab is a monoclonal IgG1 antibody that selectively inhibits interleukin (IL)-17A and IL-17F. We assessed the efficacy and safety of bimekizumab in patients with active psoriatic arthritis who were naive to biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). ⋯ UCB Pharma.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Rezafungin versus caspofungin for treatment of candidaemia and invasive candidiasis (ReSTORE): a multicentre, double-blind, double-dummy, randomised phase 3 trial.
Rezafungin is a next-generation, once-a-week echinocandin in development for the treatment of candidaemia and invasive candidiasis and for the prevention of invasive fungal disease caused by Candida, Aspergillus, and Pneumocystis spp after blood and marrow transplantation. We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of intravenous rezafungin versus intravenous caspofungin in patients with candidaemia and invasive candidiasis. ⋯ Cidara Therapeutics and Mundipharma.

Monkeypox is a zoonotic illness caused by the monkeypox virus, an Orthopoxvirus in the same genus as the variola, vaccinia, and cowpox viruses. Since the detection of the first human case in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1970, the disease has caused sporadic infections and outbreaks, mainly restricted to some countries in west and central Africa. In July, 2022, WHO declared monkeypox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, on account of the unprecedented global spread of the disease outside previously endemic countries in Africa and the need for global solidarity to address this previously neglected disease. ⋯ Patients with severe manifestations and people at risk of severe disease (eg, immunosuppressed people) could benefit from antiviral treatment (eg, tecovirimat). The current strategy for post-exposure prophylaxis or pre-exposure prophylaxis for people at high risk is vaccination with the non-replicating modified vaccinia Ankara. Antiviral treatment and vaccines are not yet available in endemic countries in Africa.

Acute coronary syndrome (ACS), the acute manifestation of ischemic heart disease, remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Soon after ACS, autonomic imbalance acts to preserve the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system and consequently of the whole body. In this study, we perform a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of heart rate variability biofeedback in improving the prognosis in patients with ACS. ⋯ This systematic review will provide high quality evidence to assess the efficacy of heart rate variability biofeedback in patients with ACS.

The use of electronic cigarettes is one of the current public health problems on increasing alert, has been growing at an accelerating rate, and has become a public health emergency. Its importance is explained by the continuous growth and acceleration of oncological rates among all ages versus the absence of high-quality evidence, correlated to the use of nicotine derived products, being at their regular versions or the new ones. Available preclinical data indicate that activation of the sympathetic nervous system by nicotine inhaled from e-cigarettes may stimulate cancer development and growth by several mechanisms, which results can significantly reduce life's quality. This systematic review and meta-analysis protocol aims to clarify the connection between the use of electronic cigarettes by adults over the age of 18 and the development of malignant neoplastic diseases. ⋯ The proposed systematic review and meta-analysis will be reported conforming to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines. Will include the following studies: case-control or cohort studies showing adults (18 years old age) using e-cigarettes. There will be no language or publication period restrictions. Articles published, but not peer-reviewed, will not be included in the review. Data will be entered in the Review Manager software (RevMan5.2.3). For dichotomous outcomes, we extracted or calculated the OR and 95% CI for each study. In case of heterogeneity (I²>50%), the random-effects model will be used to combine the studies to calculate the OR and 95% CI.
