Efficacy and safety of tripterygium glycosides in the treatment of hyperthyroidism: A systemic review and meta-analysis.
Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is overreactive and produces excess amounts of thyroid hormone. Tripterygium glycosides, traditional Chinese medicine has been widely used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, nephrotic syndrome, hyperthyroidism and other diseases due to its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. Evidence-based research is becoming popular especially with the application of Chinese traditional medicine. This paper systematically reviews and evaluates existing clinical data on the efficacy and safety of Tripterygium glycosides in the treatment of hyperthyroidism. ⋯ This study indicates that Tripterygium glycosides enhances the effect of thiamazole and prednisone in the treatment of hyperthyroidism and without increasing the risk of adverse events.

Elevated plasma/serum levels of prolactin in patients with systemic sclerosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Prolactin (PRL), an inflammatory hormone with cytokine properties, has long been considered to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, including systemic sclerosis (SSc). However, the plasma/serum levels of PRL in SSc were inconsistent in published studies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the plasma/serum levels of PRL in patients with SSc accurately. ⋯ In summary, our meta-analysis showed a significantly higher plasma/serum PRL level in SSc patients than healthy controls, and it was associated with gender and detection method.

Neurofilament light chain level in traumatic brain injury: A system review and meta-analysis.
Neurofilament light (NfL) level was obviously increased in traumatic brain injury (TBI) individuals. But, no comprehensive meta-analysis has ever been conducted to assess the diagnostic performance of NfL. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between NfL level and TBI through a meta-analysis. ⋯ NfL expression level was increased in TBI individuals, which indicated that NfL could be a potential biomarker in the diagnosis of TBI and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Heart dose linked with cardiac events and overall survival in lung cancer radiotherapy: A meta-analysis.
The aim of this study was to investigate the link between heart dose and overall survival, the link between heart dose and cardiac events and whether radiation-induced heart diseases were associated with overall survival in lung cancer radiotherapy. ⋯ Exposure of the heart to radiation increased the risk of cardiac events during radiotherapy for lung cancer. Meanwhile, heart dose including HV5 and HV30 were predictors of overall survival in lung cancer radiotherapy. It is necessary to constrain the heart dose when perform thoracic radiation therapy to decrease the incidence of cardiac events and improve the overall survival.
