Childhood asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways, the pathogenesis of which involves multiple factors including genetic predisposition, environmental exposure, and immune system regulation. To date, the causal relationships between immune cells, plasma metabolites, and childhood asthma remain undetermined. Therefore, we aim to utilize the Mendelian randomization approach to assess the causal relationships among immune cells, plasma metabolites, and childhood asthma. ⋯ Thus, HLA DR on DC can exert a detrimental effect on childhood asthma through the negative regulation of catechol glucuronide levels. The mediating effect was 0.018, accounting for a mediation effect proportion of 23.4%. This study found that HLA DR on DC can exert a risk effect on childhood asthma through the negative regulation of catechol glucuronide levels, providing new strategies for the prevention and treatment of childhood asthma and guiding future research and clinical practice.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are more vulnerable to many transmissible diseases, including tuberculosis (TB). This study is to identify the scientific publications related to TB in the GCC countries using topic modeling and co-word analysis. A bibliometric analytic study. ⋯ One hundred sixty research institutions contributed to the dissemination of TB-related knowledge in the GCC, where the highest publishing organizations were King Saud University (Kingdom Saudi Arabia; n = 518). The number of publications related to TB is high in GCC Countries. The current tendencies indicated that GCC scholars are increasingly focused on deep learning, chest X-ray, molecular docking, comorbid covid-19, risk factors, and Mycobacterium bovis.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) inevitably progresses to end-stage renal disease if intervention does not occur timely. However, there are limitations in predicting the progression of CKD by solely relying on changes in renal function. A biomarker with high sensitivity and specificity that can predict CKD progression early is required. ⋯ The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of CCR7, CCL19, and CCL21 found that CCR7 and CCL19 present good disease prediction ability. CCR7 may be a stable biomarker for predicting CKD progression, and the CCR7-CCL19/CCL21 axis may be a therapeutic target for end-stage renal disease. However, further experiments are needed to explore the relationship between these genes and CKD.

Review Case Reports
Concomitant pyogenic spondylodiscitis and empyema following tongue cancer resection and wisdom tooth extraction: A case report and literature review.
Pyogenic spondylodiscitis is an infectious spinal disease that causes significant motor dysfunctions. Its diagnosis can be challenging owing to its rapid onset and nonspecific symptoms. ⋯ This is the first case report of S aureus causing pyogenic spondylodiscitis and empyema due to blood stream infection from a post-oral surgical wound. Pyogenic spondylodiscitis arising from a secondary hematogenous infection is difficult to diagnose and can lead to severe functional impairment. Prompt and appropriate diagnosis and treatment based on detailed patient interviews, additional blood tests, and computed tomography are essential.
