Complications in operative Scheuermann kyphosis: do the pitfalls differ from operative adolescent idiopathic scoliosis?
A prospective multicenter database of operative patients with Scheuermann kyphosis (SK) with minimum 1-year follow-up was studied for major complications compared with contemporaneous operative patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) from the database. ⋯ 2.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyHigh-dose atorvastatin for preventing contrast-induced nephropathy in primary percutaneous coronary intervention.
To evaluate the efficacy of high-dose atorvastatin on contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) occurrence in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary angioplasty. ⋯ High-dose atorvastatin pretreatment does not seem to prevent CIN in patients receiving primary angioplasty. However, it has the potential to lower CIN in patients with renal insufficiency and in the elderly.

Multicenter StudyCurrent Medication Practice and Tracheal Intubation Safety Outcomes From a Prospective Multicenter Observational Cohort Study.
Tracheal intubation in PICUs is often associated with adverse tracheal intubation-associated events. There is a paucity of data regarding medication selection for safe tracheal intubations in PICUs. Our primary objective was to evaluate the association of medication selection on specific tracheal intubation-associated events across PICUs. ⋯ In this large, pediatric multicenter registry, fentanyl, midazolam, and ketamine were the most commonly used induction agents, and the majority of tracheal intubations involved neuromuscular blockade. Ketamine use was not associated with lower prevalence of hypotension.

Prehospital and en route analgesic use in the combat setting: a prospectively designed, multicenter, observational study.
Combat injuries result in acute, severe pain. Early use of analgesia after injury is known to be beneficial. Studies on prehospital analgesia in combat are limited and no prospectively designed study has reported the use of analgesics in the prehospital and en route care setting. Our objective was to describe the current use of prehospital analgesia in the combat setting. ⋯ In our prospectively designed, multicenter, observational, prehospital combat study, ketamine was the most commonly used analgesic drug. The most frequently observed combination of drugs was ketamine and morphine. The intravenous route was used for 55% of drug administrations.

The standardised mortality ratio: the proper quality indicator in acute leukaemia?
The standardised mortality ratio (SMR) is a quality indicator used to measure quality of care in the Netherlands. It is subject to much criticism, which was the reason to study the value of the SMR as a quality indicator for the treatment of acute leukaemia. ⋯ Outcome according to SMR is not equivalent to outcome according to OS. This study shows that the use of the SMR as a quality indicator for the treatment of acute leukaemia does not appear to be justified.
