Robotic versus Laparoscopic Liver Resection in Various Settings: An International Multicenter Propensity Score Matched Study of 10.075 Patients.
To compare the perioperative outcomes of robotic liver surgery (RLS) and laparoscopic liver surgery (LLS) in various settings. ⋯ While both produce excellent outcomes, RLS might facilitate slightly higher TOLS rates than LLS.

Multicenter StudyAnalgesia and Sedation Use During Noninvasive Ventilation for Acute Respiratory Failure.
To describe U.S. practice regarding administration of sedation and analgesia to patients on noninvasive ventilation (NIV) for acute respiratory failure (ARF) and to determine the association of this practice with odds of intubation or death. ⋯ The use of sedation and analgesia during NIV is common. Medication exposure was associated with increased odds of intubation or death. Further investigation is needed to confirm this finding and determine whether any subpopulations are especially harmed by this practice.

Risk of Recurrence after Surgical Resection for Adenocarcinoma Arising from Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasia (IPMN) with Patterns of Distribution and Treatment: An International, Multicentre, Observational Study.
This international multicenter cohort study aims to identify recurrence patterns and treatment of first and second recurrence in a large cohort of patients after pancreatic resection for adenocarcinoma arising from intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN). ⋯ Recurrence after pancreatic resection for adenocarcinoma arising from IPMN is frequent with a quarter of patients recurring within 12 months. Treatment of recurrence is associated with improved overall survival and should be considered.

Critical Analysis of Radiographic and Patient Reported Outcomes Following Anterior/Posterior Staged vs. Same Day Surgery in Patients Undergoing Identical Corrective Surgery for Adult Spinal Deformity.
A retrospective cohort study of a prospectively collected multicenter adult spinal deformity (ASD) database. ⋯ This investigation is among the first to compare multicenter staged and same-day surgery A/P ASD patients fused to ilium using propensity matching. Staged procedures resulted in significant improvement radiographically, reduced intensive care unit admissions, and superior patient-reported outcomes compared with same-day procedures. An interval of at least 3 days between staged procedures is associated with superior outcomes in terms of Global Alignment and Proportion score proportionality.

Effect of gender on 28-day survival rates and transfusion volume in severe trauma patients: a multicenter observational study.
Background: This study clarified the relationship between sex with survival and transfusion volume in severe trauma cases. Methods: A multicenter, collaborative post hoc analysis of patients with trauma in Japan was conducted. Patients aged ≥18 years with severe trauma indicated by an Injury Severity Score (ISS) of 16 or higher were enrolled. ⋯ Conclusion: In severe trauma, survival at 28 days was significantly lower in males. However, this trend was not observed in patients aged <50 years. Factors other than sex hormones may be responsible for differences in posttraumatic outcomes by gender.
