Newborn pulse oximetry screening coverage in a nationwide complex survey sample: An assessment of a congenital heart disease early detection program at the regional level in Brazil.
To estimate the coverage of newborn pulse oximetry screening (POS) in Brazil, as well as identifies associated factors and the proportion of positive screening results. ⋯ Inequalities were found between major regions and healthcare systems. Government financial incentives have reduced this inequality, although the percentage of postscreening complementary exams remains insufficient and unequal. The main independent predictors of screening prevalence were those related to the organization of health services.

To neutrally offer or strongly recommend? General practitioners' perspectives on screening for gestational diabetes according to the national guideline in Norway.
To explore general practitioners' experiences and reflections on how the current Norwegian guideline for screening for gestational diabetes affects their clinical practice. ⋯ It is unclear whether the guideline for gestational diabetes requires GPs to recommend screening to pregnant women or if they should provide neutral information about the availability of screening. This ambiguity should be addressed, and the guideline evaluated against the core principles of general practice.

Emergency department (ED) screening for child physical abuse has been widely implemented, with uncertain effects on child abuse identification. Our goal was to determine the effect of screening on referrals to child protective services (CPS) identifying abuse. ⋯ Routine screening did not affect initial or subsequent referrals to CPS.

Routine alcohol screening of people with chronic health conditions that are exacerbated by alcohol can help to prevent morbidity and mortality. The U.S. Affordable Care Act and other recent health reforms expanded insurance coverage and supported alcohol screening in primary care. This study assessed increases in alcohol screening following health reform and insurance-related and racial and ethnic disparities in screening. ⋯ Alcohol screening of primary care patients with chronic conditions increased following health reform, but persistent disparities among patients with private insurance and specific chronic conditions underscore the need to address drivers of unequal preventive care.

Primary Human Papillomavirus Screening: Women's Perceptions of New Cervical Cancer Screening Recommendations.
Background: Current clinical guidelines recommended primary human papillomavirus (HPV) screening for cervical cancer testing. Previous studies reported patient-level barriers (e.g., limited knowledge and attachment to Pap test) that may hinder wide adoption of primary HPV screening. We assessed these women-level factors following the implementation of primary HPV screening (July 2020) at Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC). ⋯ Only 20.6% knew that women aged 30-65 years can be screened every 5 years with cotest or primary HPV screening. Most women (96.4%) did not perceive stigma about taking the HPV test. Conclusion: Proactive patient education will help improve women's knowledge about primary HPV screening, which may facilitate its implementation in additional health care settings.
