Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI), particularly in neonates, infants and young children, with approximately 33 million infections worldwide each year. 1-2% of episodes lead to hospitalization. There are hardly any reliable epidemiological figures on hospitalization in adults, whose burden of disease from RSV is probably markedly underestimated. ⋯ The approval of new RSV-specific monoclonal antibodies and active vaccinations enables targeted prevention of RSV infection in the main population groups at risk.

Preliminary evidence suggests that there are significant associations between bullying and chronic pain, as well as between the quality of peer relationships and psychological function in youth with chronic pain. However, these findings have yet to be replicated, and the role that bullying plays in anxiety in children and adolescents with chronic pain has not yet been examined. This study sought to expand our understanding of the associations between measures of bullying and quality of peer relationships and pain-related function domains in a community sample of schoolchildren with chronic pain. ⋯ In the group of youth with chronic pain, the measures of past and current bullying, and quality of peer relationships, were not significantly associated with pain intensity, pain interference, or anxiety. However, having a history of being bullied and the quality of peer relationships were significantly associated with depressive symptom severity. The findings indicate that research to evaluate the potential causal role of bullying and the quality of peer relationships on pain-related function domains in youth with chronic pain is warranted.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyCerebral Oximetry During Pediatric In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: A Multicenter Study of Survival and Neurologic Outcome.
To determine if near-infrared spectroscopy measuring cerebral regional oxygen saturation (crS o2 ) during cardiopulmonary resuscitation is associated with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and survival to hospital discharge (SHD) in children. ⋯ Higher crS o2 during pediatric IHCA was associated with increased rate of ROSC, SHD, and FNO. Intra-arrest crS o2 may have a role as a real-time, noninvasive predictor of ROSC.

Individuals with esophageal atresia (EA) have lifelong increased risk for mucosal and structural pathology of the esophagus. The use of surveillance endoscopy to detect clinically meaningful pathology has been underexplored in pediatric EA. We hypothesized that surveillance endoscopy in pediatric EA has high clinical yield, even in the absence of symptoms. ⋯ Surveillance endoscopy uncovers high rates of actionable pathology even in asymptomatic children with EA. Based on the findings of the current study, a pediatric EA surveillance endoscopy algorithm is proposed.

Randomized Controlled TrialDexmedetomidine and magnesium sulfate in preventing junctional ectopic tachycardia after pediatric cardiac surgery.
Junctional ectopic tachycardia (JET) is a serious tachyarrhythmia following pediatric cardiac surgery. It isn't easy to treat and better to be prevented. This study aimed to examine the prophylactic effects of dexmedetomidine, MgSO4, or their combination in reducing JET following pediatric open cardiac surgery. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine alone or combined with MgSO4 had a therapeutic role in the prevention of JET in children after congenital heart surgery.
