Study of pediatric appendicitis scores and management strategies: A prospective observational feasibility study.
The objective was to investigate the feasibility of prospectively validating multiple clinical prediction scores (CPSs) for pediatric appendicitis in an Australian pediatric emergency department (ED). ⋯ The study identified 30 CPSs that could be validated in a majority of patients to compare their ability to assess risk of pediatric appendicitis. The pARC-ED had the highest predictive accuracy and can potentially assist in risk stratification of children with suspected appendicitis in pediatric EDs. A multicenter study is now under way to evaluate the potential of these CPSs in a broader range of EDs to aid clinical decision making in more varied settings.

Observational StudyThe use of intranasal sufentanil and/or s-ketamine for treatment of procedural pain in children in an ambulatory setting: A retrospective observational study.
Minor but painful medical procedures are often handled at the operating room. If safe and effective treatment options are available many procedures may be performed outside of the operating room. ⋯ Intranasal sufentanil and/or s-ketamine are feasible for the treatment of procedural pain in an ambulatory setting with appropriate per- and post-procedural observations and trained staff.

Amputations are among the most important traumatic injuries caused by earthquakes. However, data on amputee children and prosthesis application is quite limited in the literature. The aim of the study is to evaluate the injury-related data, stump problems, prosthesis application, difficulties and complications experienced with prosthesis during follow-up of children with 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake-related limb loss. ⋯ Limited healthcare facilities, surgeries performed under emergency conditions, accompanying multiple traumas, inadequate follow-up conditions, and additional difficulties arising from the pediatric patient group lead to difficulties in the care of pediatric amputee patients. Our results will guide the care of this vulnerable patient population in the event of a similar unfortunate disaster.

To summarize the clinical features of pediatric femoral neck fractures and analyze the risk factors for avascular necrosis of the femoral head. ⋯ Pediatric femoral neck fractures have a low incidence rate and are mostly caused by high-energy trauma, often resulting in severe injuries. Therefore, actively maintaining stable vital signs and properly managing associated injuries, timely surgical intervention for femoral neck fractures, achieving good reduction and fixation of displaced fractures are crucial in the treatment of pediatric femoral neck fractures.

Alpine skiing is practiced with speed and forces which entails a risk of injury and fractures. Most studies focus on all injuries in the musculoskeletal system and fractures are only described briefly or lack comparison between children and adults. This study focuses on the national trends of skiing-related fractures in children and adults, detailing fracture localization characteristics and initial treatments. ⋯ Tibia fractures were predominant, with children frequently experiencing shaft fractures and adults proximal tibia fractures. Younger, lighter children skiing at a slower speed would benefit from improved ski bindings for fracture prevention. Tailoring ski equipment to an individual's age and sex is crucial for enhancing preventive strategies.
