Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyEffects of intravenous single-bolus lidocaine infusion versus intravenous single-bolus magnesium sulfate infusion on postoperative pain, emotional status, and quality of life in patients undergoing spine fusion surgery: a randomized study.
We assessed the efficiency of intravenous adjuvants in decreasing opioid intake and pain scores after spine fusion surgery. ⋯ A synergistic effect of a combination of lidocaine and magnesium sulfate on perioperative pain was found. It reduces analgesic consumption, depression, and anxiety and improves overall health up to three months after a single infusion dose.

Randomized Controlled TrialImpact of Surgical Positioning on the Occurrence of Postoperative Ipilateral Shoulder Pain After Lung Resection by Video-Assisted Thoracoscopy: A Randomized Trial.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the ipsilateral arm position on ipsilateral shoulder pain after lung cancer resection by video-assisted thoracic surgery. ⋯ Ipsilateral arm position seems to have no impact on ipsilateral shoulder pain.

Cutaneous burns are commonly treated with autologous skin grafts. Following skin grafting, many patients complain of pain at the donor site. Donor sites are taken most commonly from the lateral thigh, which is innervated by the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN). Use of a LFCN blocks should decrease nociception from the donor site. ⋯ Our data shows that use of LFCN block by landmark technique did not reduce narcotic usage in patients that undergo skin grafting procedures. Future studies should consider ultrasound-guided LFCN blocks.
