Randomized Controlled Trial
Results of surgery for discogenic low back pain: a randomized study using discography versus discoblock for diagnosis.
Randomized, controlled study. ⋯ Pain relief after injection of a small amount of bupivacaine into the painful disc was a useful tool for the diagnosis of discogenic LBP compared with discography.

The objective of this study was to investigate the interchangeability of the EuroQol 5D (EQ-5D) and the Short Form 6D (SF-6D) in individuals with long-lasting low back pain to guide the optimal choice of instrument and to inform decision-makers about any between-measure discrepancy, which require careful interpretation of the results of cost-utility evaluations. ⋯ Although the EQ-5D and the SF-6D are both psychometrically valid for generic outcome assessment in long-lasting low back pain, it appears that they cannot generally be used interchangeably for measurement of preference values. Sensitivity analysis examining the impact of between-measure discrepancy thus remains a necessary condition for the interpretation of the results of cost-utility evaluations.

A age- and sex-matched case-control radiographic study. ⋯ There are 2 independent predictors of DS, decreased anterior disc height and increased lumbar index. The iliolumbar ligament also contributes to the stability of lumbosacral junction, especially in L5 on S1 DS.

Case ReportsRetrieval analysis of a ProDisc-L total disc replacement.
We retrieved a functioning ProDisc-L total disc replacement and associated tissues at 16 months of service life. ⋯ A larger series of implant retrievals will be needed to investigate possible wear and the biologic response to increased particle generation.

To evaluate the fusion achieved by posterior lumbar interbody fusion--PLIF [B-TWIN, Disc-O-Tech) stand-alone in terms of intervertebral fusion on the basis of radiograph imaging. ⋯ A fusion rate of 93% was achieved. The findings suggested a tendency for better results in the female group and better results in the spinal stenosis group compared with the spondylolisthesis group and the degenerative disc disease group. There is a need for further investigation in order to establish our findings.
