Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffectiveness of intervention for low back pain in female caregivers in nursing homes: a pilot trial based on multicenter randomization.
Although the importance of stretching exercise for pain-relieving and patient education is well documented for chronic lumbago patients, it is uncertain how effective on-the-job training (OJT) is for female caregivers in nursing homes. In the present pilot trial based on multicenter randomization, we evaluated the intervention effect of a lecture and stretching exercise on caregivers in nursing homes. ⋯ Even with the conduct of one OJT, and exercises of only 6 min every day, the adherence of caregivers was low, and there appeared to be few effects of the OJT.

Multicenter StudyPredicting the transition from acute to persistent low back pain.
Most people experience low back pain (LBP) at least once in their lifetime. Only a minority of them go on to develop persistent LBP. However, the socioeconomic costs of persistent LBP significantly exceed the costs of the initial acute LBP episode. ⋯ In this study of patients with acute LBP in a primary care setting psychological factors at baseline correlated with a progression to persistent LBP up to 6 months. The benefit of including factors such as 'depression and maladaptive cognition' in screening tools is that these factors can be addressed in primary and secondary prevention.

Correlation between variables measured with previously validated instruments. ⋯ In Southern European subacute and chronic LBP patients, catastrophizing correlates with dis-ability and explains approximately one-fourth of its variance. Further studies should assess its value as a prognostic factor in subacute and chronic patients.

Clinical Investigation of Pain-related Fear and Pain Catastrophizing for Patients With Low Back Pain.
to investigate select psychometric properties of fear-avoidance model measures commonly used to assess pain-related fear and catastrophizing in clinical studies of low back pain. ⋯ these analyses suggest clinical assessment of the Fear-Avoidance Model of Musculoskeletal Pain likely captures 3 factors including PCS, beliefs about work, and beliefs about physical activity. The FABQ-PA and PCS can be recommended for clinical use because of their unique associations with pain intensity and disability. The FABQ-W may only be appropriate for those interested in assessing work specific beliefs.

Efficacy of injections with Disci/Rhus toxicodendron compositum for chronic low back pain--a randomized placebo-controlled trial.
The effectiveness of injection therapy for low-back pain is still debatable. We compared the efficacy of local injections of the homeopathic preparation Disci/Rhus toxicodendron compositum (verum) with placebo injections and with no treatment in patients with chronic low back pain. ⋯ The homeopathic preparation was not superior to placebo. Compared to no treatment injections resulted in significant and clinical relevant chronic back pain relief.
