Randomized Controlled Trial Observational StudyComparison of effects of volatile and intravenous anesthetics on pupillary function during general anesthesia in children: A prospective observational study.
The light reflex, which reflects central nervous system dysfunction, can also be affected by anesthetic agents. ⋯ The Neurological Pupil index value in pediatric patients under general anesthesia is affected by the anesthetic agent used; this factor requires consideration in evaluations of the Neurological Pupil index during general anesthesia.

Selective Activation of NAc D1R-VP/LH Circuits Promotes Reanimation From Sevoflurane Anesthesia in Mice.
Emerging evidence has uncovered a vital role of nucleus accumbens (NAc) neurons that express the dopamine D1 receptor (D1R) and its upstream neural circuit in general anesthesia (GA) regulation. However, the underlying downstream neural basis of the modulation of GA emergence by NAc D1R neurons remains unknown. In the present study, we explored the downstream neural mechanism of NAc D1R neurons in the modulation of emergence from sevoflurane GA. ⋯ Both NAc D1R -VP and NAc D1R -LH circuits are sufficient to promote reanimation from sevoflurane GA by simultaneously inducing cortical and behavioral emergence.

Comparison of Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting Incidence between Remimazolam and Sevoflurane in Tympanoplasty with Mastoidectomy: A Single-Center, Double-Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial.
Background and Objectives: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a common adverse effect of general anesthesia, especially in middle ear surgery. Remimazolam is a newer benzodiazepine recently approved for use in general anesthesia. This study aimed to compare the incidence rate of PONV after tympanoplasty with mastoidectomy between using remimazolam and sevoflurane. ⋯ The incidence rate of adverse hemodynamic events was lower in the remimazolam group than in the sevoflurane group, but there was no difference in the overall trends of hemodynamic data between the two groups. There was no difference in recovery profiles between the two groups. Conclusions: Remimazolam can significantly reduce the incidence rate of early PONV after tympanoplasty with mastoidectomy under general anesthesia.

Meta Analysis
Meta-analysis of the effect of entropy-assisted general anesthesia on the quality of postoperative recovery.
To evaluate the effect of the quality of postoperative anesthetic resuscitation in patients with entropy index monitoring assisted general anesthesia versus standard clinical practice. ⋯ The application of the entropy index can improve the recovery quality of patients under general anesthesia, not only shortening the postoperative recovery time but also reducing the occurrence of agitation and PONV. It does not affect the incidence of intraoperative awareness.

Associations of systemic oxygen consumption with age and body temperature under general anesthesia: retrospective cohort study.
Body temperature (BT) is thought to have associations with oxygen consumption (VO2). However, there have been few studies in which the association between systemic VO2 and BT in humans was investigated in a wide range of BTs. The aims of this study were 1) to determine the association between VO2 and age and 2) to determine the association between VO2 and BT. ⋯ VO2 increases in parallel with increase in body temperature in a hyperthermic state but remains constant in a hypothermic state. Neonates and infants, who have high VO2, may have a large systemic organ response in VO2 to change in BT.
