Background and Objectives: This study aims to investigate whether erector spinae plane (ESP) block can be an alternative to general anesthesia as a primary anesthesia method in percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty surgery. In addition, postoperative intensive care needs were compared in terms of length of intensive care unit stay and length of hospital stay. Materials and Methods: Medical records of patients who underwent percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty operation at Kastamonu Training and Research Hospital between January 2020 and November 2022 were reviewed retrospectively. ⋯ A statistically significant difference was found in Group GA and Group ESP, which was higher in Group GA for the length of stay in the intensive care unit (p = 0.02) and length of hospitalization (p = 0.04). Conclusions: ESP block may be an alternative method to general anesthesia as the primary anesthetic option for single or multilevel percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty surgery. With the ESP block, the length of stay in the intensive care unit and the length of stay in the hospital can be reduced, especially in high-risk patients.

Compound lidocaine/prilocaine cream combined with tetracaine prevents cough caused by extubation after general anaesthesia: a randomised controlled trial.
Coughing caused by tracheal extubation is common following general anaesthesia. Heavy aerosol production by coughing during recovery from general anaesthesia in patients with respiratory infections (especially COVID-19) may be one of the highest risk factors for infection in healthcare workers. The application of local anaesthetics to the endotracheal tube is an effective method to reduce coughing. The most commonly used anaesthetics are compound lidocaine/prilocaine cream and tetracaine spray. However, coughing still occurs when the two anaesthetics are used alone. We speculated that the application of compound lidocaine/prilocaine combined with tetracaine spray would better prevent coughing caused by tracheal extubation. ⋯ Compound lidocaine/prilocaine cream combined with tetracaine may be a more effective approach for preventing coughing and stabilising circulation during extubation following general anaesthesia. This may play an important role in preventing medical staff from contracting respiratory infectious diseases.

Anesthesia, Blood Pressure, and Socioeconomic Status in Endovascular Thrombectomy for Acute Stroke: A Single Center Retrospective Case Cohort.
Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is standard for acute ischemic stroke (AIS), with early studies suggesting that general anesthesia (GA) is associated with worse outcomes than monitored anesthesia care (MAC). Socioeconomic deprivation is also a risk factor for worse AIS outcomes. With improvements in MT and blood pressure (BP) management, it remains unclear if GA or socioeconomic deprivation are risk factors for worse outcomes after MT. ⋯ Anesthesia and MAP did not affect MT outcomes. The cohort is unique based on an area of deprivation index in the higher deciles in the United States. While the area of deprivation index was not associated with worse outcomes, further study is warranted.

Meta AnalysisUsefulness of Analgesia Nociception Index for guiding intraoperative opioid administration: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study primarily aimed at investigating the efficacy of Analgesia Nociception Index (ANI) for guiding intraoperative opioid administration in patients receiving surgery under general anesthesia. ⋯ Analgesia nociception index-guided analgesia was unable to reduce intraoperative opioid administration compared to monitoring using conventional clinical parameters. Further studies are required to support our findings.
