Observational StudyImpact of hypotension on cerebral perfusion during general anesthesia induction: a prospective observational study in adults.
During anesthesia, decreases in mean arterial pressure (MAP) are common but the impact on possible cerebral hypoperfusion remains a matter of debate. We evaluated cerebral perfusion in patients with or without cardiovascular comorbidities (Hi-risk vs Lo-risk) during induction of general anesthesia and during hypotensive episodes. ⋯ Our results showed that Hi-risk patients had a higher decrease in MAP and Vm, and a higher occurrence of SR during induction of anesthesia than Lo-risk patients. Correction of MAP with norepinephrine increased Vm mainly in Hi-rik patients.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyThe Effect of Mode of Anaesthesia on Outcomes After Elective Endovascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.
Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is the most commonly used method to repair abdominal aortic aneurysms. EVAR can be performed using a variety of anaesthetic techniques, including general anaesthetic (GA), regional anaesthetic (RA), and local anaesthetic (LA), but little is known about the effects that each of these anaesthetic modes have on patient outcome. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of anaesthetic technique on early outcomes after elective EVAR. ⋯ Thirty day mortality was lower with RA than with GA, but mode of anaesthesia was not associated with increased complications for patients undergoing elective standard infrarenal EVAR.

The current coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemia is a highly dynamic situation characterized by therapeutic and logistic uncertainties. Depending on the effectiveness of social distancing, a shortage of intensive care respirators must be expected. Concomitantly, many physicians and nursing staff are unaware of the capabilities of alternative types of ventilators, hence being unsure if they can be used in intensive care patients. ⋯ Modern transport ventilators are mainly for bridging purposes as they can only be used with 100% oxygen in contaminated surroundings. Unconventional methods, such as "ventilator-splitting", which have recently received increasing attention on social media, cannot be recommended. This review intends to provide an overview of the conceptual and technical differences of different types of mechanical ventilators.

Use of Augmented Reality During Inhaled Induction of General Anesthesia in 3 Pediatric Patients: A Case Report.
Preoperative anxiety is common in children undergoing surgery and general anesthesia (GA). Augmented reality (AR), an interactive technology that superimposes computer-generated information on the real-world environment, can be a valuable tool to address preoperative anxiety. ⋯ Patients and parents were satisfied with the experience and described less patient anxiety as compared to previous inductions. AR can be beneficial as an adjunct or alternative to existing pharmacologic and behavioral distraction techniques for preoperative anxiety.
