Traditional general anesthesia in elderly lung cancer patients undergoing pulmonary lobectomy may lead to hemodynamic fluctuations and postoperative complications. To optimize anesthesia efficacy, this study explores the application of combined anesthesia (general anesthesia combined with thoracic paravertebral block) in such surgeries. We evaluated the improvement of pulmonary oxygenation function, hemodynamic stability, and respiratory compliance in elderly lung cancer patients undergoing pulmonary lobectomy with combined anesthesia. ⋯ Additionally, patients in the treatment group showed faster recovery of cognitive function, better sleep quality, and a relatively lower incidence of postoperative complications. Combined anesthesia demonstrates unique advantages in pulmonary lobectomy for elderly lung cancer patients, optimizing intraoperative hemodynamic stability, promoting postoperative pulmonary function recovery, accelerating cognitive function recovery, improving sleep quality, and potentially reducing the risk of postoperative complications. This finding provides a new effective strategy for anesthesia management in elderly lung cancer patients.

Association Between Two Muscle-Related Parameters and Postoperative Complications in Patients Undergoing Colorectal Tumor Resection Surgery.
This study aimed to investigate the associations of 2 preoperative muscle-related parameters, the third lumbar vertebra skeletal muscle index (L3 SMI) for muscle mass and the Hounsfield unit average calculation (HUAC) for muscle density, with the occurrence of postoperative complications among patients undergoing colorectal tumor resection surgery under general anesthesia. We hypothesized that muscle-related parameters are associated with the occurrence of postoperative complications. ⋯ A significant association was observed between myosteatosis and postoperative complications (corresponding to Clavien-Dindo classification before discharge), especially severe postoperative complications (Clavien-Dindo grade ≥3) in patients undergoing colorectal tumor resection. Screening for myosteatosis with HUAC using the CT before surgery may help clinicians identify high-risk perioperative patients early.

Previous Coronavirus Disease-2019 Infection and Lung Mechanics in Surgical Patients: A Hospital Registry Study.
Long-term pulmonary complications have been reported after a coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). We hypothesized that a history of COVID-19 is associated with a measurable decrease in baseline respiratory system compliance in patients undergoing general anesthesia. ⋯ A history of COVID-19 infection during Alpha 1 , Alpha 2 , and Delta surges was associated with a measurably lower baseline respiratory system compliance.
