Correlates of Use and Perceived Effectiveness of Non-pharmacologic Strategies for Chronic Pain Among Patients Prescribed Long-term Opioid Therapy.
Non-pharmacologic treatments (NPTs) are recommended for chronic pain. Information is limited on patient use or perceptions of NPTs. We examined the frequency and correlates of use and self-rated helpfulness of NPTs for chronic pain among patients who are prescribed long-term opioid therapy (LTOT). ⋯ NPT use was associated with higher pain disability and younger age for both clinician-directed and self-directed NPTs and higher education for self-directed NPTs. These strategies were rated as helpful by those that used them. These results can inform intervention implementation and be used to increase engagement in NPTs for chronic pain.

Effects of Median Nerve Neural Mobilization in Treating Cervicobrachial Pain: A Randomized Waiting List-controlled Clinical Trial.
There is a current lack of sufficiently high-quality randomized controlled clinical trials that measure the effectiveness of neural tissue mobilization techniques such as median nerve neural mobilization (MNNM) and their specific effects on cervicobrachial pain (CP). The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of MNNM in subjects with CP vs. a waiting list control group (WLCG). ⋯ MNNM may be superior to no treatment in reducing pain and increasing function in the affected upper limbs of subjects with CP.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffects of pain treatment on sleep in nursing home patients with dementia and depression: A multicenter placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial.
To investigate the effects of pain treatment on sleep in nursing home (NH) patients with dementia and depression. ⋯ Compared with placebo, pain treatment improved sleep as measured with actigraphy. This implies that sleep, pain, and depression in NH patients should be critically evaluated and that pain treatment should be considered to be a potentially beneficial treatment.

Fully Implantable Peripheral Nerve Stimulation for Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain: A Multi-Site Case Series With Two-Year Follow-Up.
To explore the feasibility and safety of a single-lead, fully implantable peripheral nerve stimulation system for the treatment of chronic shoulder pain in stroke survivors. ⋯ This case series demonstrates the safety and efficacy of a fully implantable axillary PNS system for chronic HSP. Participants experienced reduction in pain, reduction in pain interference, and improved pain-free external rotation ROM. There were no serious adverse events associated with the system or the procedure.

Improving the management of pain from advanced cancer in the community: study protocol for a pragmatic multicentre randomised controlled trial.
For patients with advanced cancer, research shows that pain is frequent, burdensome and undertreated. Evidence-based approaches to support cancer pain management have been developed but have not been implemented within the context of the UK National Health Service. This protocol is for a pragmatic multicentre randomised controlled trial (RCT) to assess feasibility, acceptability, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness for a multicomponent intervention for pain management in patients with advanced cancer. ⋯ This RCT has the potential to significantly influence National Health Service delivery to community-based patients with pain from advanced cancer. We aim to provide definitive evidence of whether two simple interventions delivered by community palliative care nurse in palliative care that support-self-management are clinically effective and cost-effective additions to standard community palliative care.
