Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyStimulating versus non-stimulating catheter for lumbar plexus continuous infusion after total hip replacement.
This study was aimed to investigate whether stimulating catheters for continuous lumbar plexus block reduce local anesthetic consumption after hip arthroplasty if compared with traditional non-stimulating catheters. ⋯ The study showed comparable local anesthetic consumption, pain scores and muscle strength preservation between the two groups. The stimulating catheter allowed a significant, although underpowered, reduction in opioid consumption.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
A randomized controlled trial of postoperative intravenous acetaminophen plus thoracic epidural analgesia vs. thoracic epidural analgesia alone after gastrectomy for gastric cancer.
Acetaminophen is used in multimodal therapy for postoperative pain management. However, the additional effects of acetaminophen in combination with thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) are not well understood. This prospective, multicenter randomized study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of routine intravenous (i.v.) acetaminophen in combination with TEA for the management of postoperative pain in gastric cancer surgery. ⋯ In gastric cancer surgery patients, routine i.v. acetaminophen in combination with TEA provides superior postoperative pain management compared with TEA alone.

Effect of 3D Printing Individualized Ankle-Foot Orthosis on Plantar Biomechanics and Pain in Patients with Plantar Fasciitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
BACKGROUND Traditional ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) are not effective in treating plantar fasciitis, while customized 3-dimensional (3D) printed ankle-foot orthoses are effective in treating many ankle-foot diseases. This study investigated the effects of customized 3D printed AFOs on biomechanics and comfort of the plantar foot in plantar fasciitis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty patients with bilateral plantar fasciitis aged 31-60 years participated in this study. ⋯ The comfort scores reported by the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS This study supports the efficiency of customized 3D printing AFO for reducing damage associated with plantar lesions and improving comfort in patients with plantar fasciitis compared with prefabricated AFO. Customized AFO is useful in the treatment of plantar fasciitis compared with prefabricated AFOs.

Randomized Controlled TrialKetamine infusion for pain control in adult patients with multiple rib fractures: Results of a randomized control trial.
Rib fractures occur in up to 40% of trauma patients and are associated with increased mortality. Opiate-based pain regimens remain the cornerstone of rib fracture management; however, concerns around opioids have fostered interest in alternative analgesics. Ketamine is currently being used in lieu of opioids, but little evidence exists supporting its use within the trauma population. ⋯ Therapeutic study, level II.

Effects of thoracic epidural anesthesia/analgesia on the stress response, pain relief, hospital stay, and treatment costs of patients with esophageal carcinoma undergoing thoracic surgery: A single-center, randomized controlled trial.
Appropriate postoperative pain management can improve outcomes in patients with esophageal cancer (EC). ⋯ Thoracic epidural anesthesia/analgesia can reduce the stress response, improve postoperative recovery and reduce hospital stay and costs for patients with EC.
