Application of rhBMP in spinal fusion surgery: any correlation of cancer incidence? A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Safety concerns regarding the application of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) have been highlighted in recent years. It is noted that both BMP and their receptors being identified as a trigger for cancer growth. Here, we aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of BMP for spinal fusion surgery. ⋯ Our study found that rhBMP was not associated with the increased risk of cancer incidence within the rhBMP cohort. Still, we did face several limitations, in which further studies are needed to confirm the result of our meta-analysis.

Diagnostic accuracy of circulating exosomal circRNAs in malignances: A meta-analysis and systematic review.
Pathogenesis of malignant tumors are often accompanied by aberrant expression of circular RNAs (circRNAs), indicating the potential diagnostic value of circRNAs in tumors. CircRNAs have been found to be enriched, stable and ubiquitous in serum and plasma exosomes. The study aims at evaluating the diagnostic performance of circulating (plasma and serum) exosomal circRNA in different types of cancer by synthesis of published data. ⋯ In conclusion, our study evaluated the diagnostic power of circulating exosomal circRNAs in 6 types of cancer by synthesis of published data comprising 21 studies from eleven articles. The pooled analysis provided the evidence supporting circulating exosomal circRNAs as a promising noninvasive diagnostic biomarkers for malignancies.

The Use of Human Amniotic Membrane (hAM) as a Treatment Strategy of Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ): A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Literature.
Background and objectives: Although it is very uncommon, medication-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw (also known as MRONJ) can have serious consequences. Traditionally, this adverse event has been recognised in patients who were treated with bisphosphonate (BP) drugs. Nevertheless, in recent years, it has been established that individuals having treatment with various types of medications, such as a receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-Β ligand inhibitor (denosumab) and antiangiogenic agents, have had the same issue. ⋯ Intraoperative complications were only documented in one article, and they were mostly caused by the positioning of the hAM, which led to wound breakdown at the surgical site. Conclusions: Based on the small amount of data and low-quality research included in this study, using human amniotic membranes to treat MRONJ might represent a feasible option. Nevertheless, further studies with a wider patient population are required to understand the long-term impacts.

Review Meta AnalysisEffectiveness of Virtual Reality in Symptom Management of Cancer Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Although the survival rate of cancer patients has been increasing, such patients often experience severe physical and psychological burdens due to the effects of the disease and therapy. Multiple virtual reality (VR)-based interventions have been used to help improve physical and psychological symptoms and quality of life in cancer patients. ⋯ VR interventions were effective in improving physical and psychological symptoms in cancer patients. Due to the limited number of studies, small sample sizes, and moderate to high heterogeneity, these results should be interpreted with caution. More rigorous, comprehensive and high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are needed to validate the results of this study.

The occurrence and development of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are closely related to the immune status of the tumor-host. The immunosuppression caused by tumor cells and toxic side effects produced by chemotherapeutic drugs results in a decrease in immune function, ultimately leading to the failure of clinical chemotherapy treatment. Ginsenoside Rg3 has been clinically reported to have positive effects in enhancing immune function in patients. Thus, we screened and evaluated the quality of the evidence regarding the benefits of ginsenoside Rg3 and conducted a meta-analysis to assess the impact on improving immune function in NSCLC. ⋯ This study confirmed that ginsenoside Rg3 has some efficacy advantages for improving immune function in patients with NSCLC.
