Ketofol versus Dexmedetomidine for preventing postoperative delirium in elderly patients undergoing intestinal obstruction surgeries: a randomized controlled study.
Postoperative delirium (POD) is considered the most common postoperative neurological complication in elderly patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the administration of ketofol versus dexmedetomidine (DEX) for minimizing POD in elderly patients undergoing urgent exploration for intestinal obstruction. ⋯ The administration of ketofol provides a promising alternative option that is as effective as DEX in reducing the incidence of POD in elderly patients undergoing urgent exploration for intestinal obstruction.

To summarize and appraise the use of dexmedetomidine in epidural labor analgesia, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). ⋯ Dexmedetomidine combined with local anesthetic for epidural labor analgesia can improve the VAS score of parturients. Except for the increased incidence of maternal bradycardia, it seems to be safe for the parturients and fetuses.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyDexmedetomidine Infusion Versus Placebo During Light or Deep Anesthesia on Postoperative Delirium in Older Patients Undergoing Major Noncardiac Surgery: A Pilot Randomized Factorial Trial.
Postoperative delirium (POD) is common among older surgical patients and may be affected by dexmedetomidine and depth of anesthesia. We designed this pilot study to assess the feasibility of comparing dexmedetomidine with normal saline during light versus deep anesthesia on POD in older patients undergoing major noncardiac surgery. ⋯ The findings of this pilot study demonstrate the feasibility of assessing dexmedetomidine versus placebo during light versus deep anesthesia on POD among older patients undergoing major noncardiac surgery, and justify a multicenter randomized factorial trial.

Meta AnalysisDexmedetomidine Withdrawal Syndrome in Children in the PICU: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
To systematically review literature describing the clinical presentation, risk factors, and treatment for dexmedetomidine withdrawal in the PICU (PROSPERO: CRD42022307178). ⋯ On review of the 2000-2022 literature, dexmedetomidine withdrawal may be characterized by tachycardia, hypertension, or agitation, particularly with higher cumulative doses or prolonged durations. Since most studies included in the review were retrospective, prospective studies are needed to further clarify risk factors, establish diagnostic criteria, and identify optimal management strategies.

Dexmedetomidine in Fluoroscopic Guided Splanchnic Nerve Neurolysis for Pain Control: A Randomized, Controlled Trial.
Splanchnic nerve neurolysis (SNN) shows beneficial effects in reducing malignancy-associated refractory abdominal pain. Using adjuvants, such as dexmedetomidine to improve the pain was studied. ⋯ This study revealed that using dexmedetomidine in the chemical SNN process improves the pain results from injection of alcohol and refractory cancer related pain with reduction in the consumption of morphine in patients with upper-abdominal malignancy.
