Erector spinae plane block for perioperative pain management in neurosurgical lower-thoracic and lumbar spinal fusion: a single-centre prospective randomised controlled trial.
Erector spinae plane block is a locoregional anaesthetic technique widely used in several different surgeries due to its safety and efficacy. The aim of this study is to assess its utility in spinal degenerative and traumatic surgery in western countries and for patients of Caucasian ethnicity. ⋯ Erector spinae plane block is a safe and efficient opioid-sparing technique for postoperative pain control after spinal fusion surgery. This study recommends its implementation in everyday practice and incorporation as a part of multimodal analgesia protocols.

Effects of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block on postoperative acute pain and chronic post-surgical pain in patients underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy: a prospective randomized, controlled trial.
To investigate the effects of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB) on acute and chronic post-surgical pain in patients underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block can significantly reduce acute post-surgical pain, can not reduce the incidence of chronic post-surgical pain, but can significantly reduce the severity of chronic pain in patients underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy.

Analgesic Efficacy of Intraoperative Superior Hypogastric Plexus (SHP) Block during Abdominal Hysterectomy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Controlled Trials.
Background and Objectives: Abdominal hysterectomy is a major surgery that is often associated with pronounced postsurgical pain. The objective of this research is to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and nonrandomized comparative trials (NCTs) that have surveyed the analgesic benefits and morbidity of intraoperative superior hypogastric plexus (SHP) block (intervention) compared with no SHP block (control) during abdominal hysterectomy. Materials and Methods: The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Google Scholar, Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and Embase were searched from inception until 8 May 2022. ⋯ Nevertheless, there was no significant variance between both arms regarding operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postsurgical NSAID consumption, and hospital stay. There were no major side effects or sympathetic block-related aftermaths in both groups. Conclusions: During abdominal hysterectomy and receiving perioperative multimodal analgesia, the administration of intraoperative SHP block is largely safe and exhibits better analgesic effects compared to cases without administration of SHP block.

Popliteal sciatic nerve block for high-risk patients undergoing lower limb angioplasty: A prospective double-blinded randomized controlled trial.
To assess the rate of conversion to general anesthesia, sedative and analgesic drug-sparing effects, and complications of popliteal sciatic nerve block (PSNB) compared with a sham block during lower limb angioplasty. ⋯ PSNB provided effective pain relief during and immediately after lower limb angioplasty, but did not statistically affect the rate of conversion to general anesthesia, sedoanalgesia drug usage, or complications.

Analgesic efficacy of quadratus lumborum block in patients undergoing nephrectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
To evaluate the analgesic efficacy of quadratus lumborum block (QLB) in adults undergoing nephrectomy. ⋯ Single-shot QLB provided a statistically significant but clinically small improvement in postoperative analgesia and recovery for patients undergoing nephrectomy. The QLB would be beneficial as part of multimodal analgesia. Future research might need to determine which approach of QLB is superior for postoperative analgesia after nephrectomy.
