Adequate pain control after cesarean section (CS) is crucial for mothers caring for newborns, and early ambulation to avoid thromboembolism and chronic abdominal and pelvic pain. This randomized controlled trial compared the efficacy of quadratus lumborum block (QLB) and intrathecal morphine (ITM) for analgesia after CS. ⋯ QLB and ITM are effective analgesic regimens after CS. However, QLB provides better long-lasting analgesia and reduced total postoperative morphine consumption.

Unilateral transversus abdominis plane block and port-site infiltration : Comparison of postoperative analgesic efficacy in laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
To compare the analgesic efficacy of unilateral subcostal transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block with local anesthetic infiltration, applied to the port site in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). ⋯ Unilateral subcostal TAP block was superior to local anesthetic infiltration at port sites after LC, in terms of low opioid consumption. Unilateral subcostal TAP block is recommended as part of a multimodal analgesic protocol.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the correlations between the minimum effective volume (MEV) of lidocaine 1.5% for an ultrasound-guided popliteal sciatic nerve block and individual factors including the cross-sectional nerve area, sex, age, body mass index, and the depth of the sciatic nerve and to evaluate the safety of combined femoral and sciatic nerve blocks by monitoring the plasma concentration of local anesthetics. ⋯ There is a positive correlation between the cross-sectional area of the sciatic nerve and the MEV. The regression equation can help to predict the MEV of lidocaine 1.5% for popliteal sciatic nerve blocks. The maximum concentrations of lidocaine and its metabolites did not approach toxic threshold limits in this study.

To evaluate the analgesic effect of preoperative fascia iliaca block on postoperative morphine equivalent dose, pain level, and patient satisfaction for patients electing to undergo primary hip arthroscopic labral repair with osteochondroplasty. ⋯ Level II, prospective single blinded randomized study.

Thoracolumbar interfascial plane block (TLIPB) has recently been described for postoperative analgesia after thoracolumbar spine surgery. This block is minimally invasive, relatively safe, and easy to perform. ⋯ We describe the sonoanatomic landmarks of this technique, and we report results of this retrospective case series on analgesic impact of this block in patients undergoing implantation of spinal cord stimulation systems. Clinical studies are required to investigate the analgesic role of TLIPB for spinal thoracolumbar surgery.
