Despite increasing the likelihood of a Cormack-Lehane grade 1 view, pooled results from the studies showed no difference between the Pentax Airway Scope and standard Macintosh laryngoscope for:
- Rate of intubation on first attempt.
- Time for intubation.
- Incidence of oral or pharyngeal injury.

Review Meta AnalysisVideo laryngoscopy versus direct laryngoscopy for orotracheal intubation in the intensive care unit: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Single studies of video laryngoscopy (VL) use for airway management in intensive care unit (ICU) patients have produced controversial findings. The aim of this study was to critically review the literature to investigate whether VL reduces difficult orotracheal intubation (OTI) rate, first-attempt success, and complications related to intubation in ICU patients, compared to standard therapy, defined as direct laryngoscopy (DL). ⋯ These results suggest that VL could be useful in airway management of ICU patients.

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy versus nasogastric tube feeding for patients with head and neck cancer: a systematic review.
There are two main enteral feeding strategies-namely nasogastric (NG) tube feeding and percutaneous gastrostomy-used to improve the nutritional status of patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). But up till now there has been no consistent evidence about which method of enteral feeding is the optimal method for this patient group. To compare the effectiveness of percutaneous gastrostomy and NGT feeding in patients with HNC, relevant literature was identified through Medline, Embase, Pubmed, Cochrane, Wiley and manual searches. ⋯ Data were then compared with respect to nutritional status, duration of feeding, complications, radiotherapy delays, disease-free survival and overall survival. Methodological quality of RCTs and non-experimental studies were assessed with separate standard grading scales. It became apparent from our studies that both feeding strategies have advantages and disadvantages.

This article presents the systematic review of the randomized, controlled trials comparing the effectiveness of nasogastric (NG) versus postpyloris (PP) feeding in critically ill surgical patients and other patients in intensive therapy unit (ITU). Twenty randomized trials recruiting 1496 patients were retrieved from the standard electronic databases. There were 760 patients in the NG feeding group and 736 patients in the PP feeding group. ⋯ In summary, PP feeding in ITU patients reduces the gastric residual volume and risk of aspiration pneumonia. PP feeding is also superior to NG feeding in terms of delivering higher proportion of daily caloric requirements. PP feeding with the help of nasoduodenal or nasojejunal tube may be used routinely in ITU patients for nutritional support.

Review Meta AnalysisDexmedetomidine for the management of awake fibreoptic intubation.
Awake fibreoptic intubation (AFOI) frequently requires sedation, anxiolysis and relief of discomfort without impairing ventilation and depressing cardiovascular function. The goal is to allow the patient to be responsive and co-operative. Medications such as fentanyl, remifentanil, midazolam and propofol have been reported to assist AFOI; however,these agents are associated with cardiovascular or respiratory adverse effects. Dexmedetomidine has been proposed as an alternative to facilitate AFOI. ⋯ Small, limited trials provide weak evidence to support dexmedetomidine as an option for patients with an anticipated difficult airway who undergo AFOI. The findings of this review should be further corroborated by additional controlled investigations.
