Multicenter StudyTreatment Effect and Safety of Icatibant in Pediatric Patients with Hereditary Angioedema.
Clinical manifestations of hereditary angioedema with C1 inhibitor deficiency (C1-INH-HAE) usually begin in childhood, often intensifying during puberty. Currently there are insufficient efficacy/safety data for HAE therapies in children and adolescents due to the small number of pediatric patients enrolled in studies. ⋯ Symptom relief was rapid, and a single icatibant injection in pediatric patients with C1-INH-HAE was well tolerated (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier, NCT01386658).

Randomized clinical trial of laparoscopic ultrasonography before laparoscopic colorectal cancer resection.
Intraoperative ultrasonography during open surgery for colorectal cancer may be useful for the detection of unrecognized liver metastases. Laparoscopic ultrasonography (LUS) for the detection of unrecognized liver metastasis has not been studied in a randomized trial. This RCT tested the hypothesis that LUS would change the TNM stage and treatment strategy. ⋯ Routine LUS during resection of colorectal cancer is not recommended. Registration number: NCT02079389 (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov).

Prediction of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Recurrence Beyond Milan Criteria After Resection: Validation of a Clinical Risk Score in an International Cohort.
This study aims to validate a previously reported recurrence clinical risk score (CRS). ⋯ CRS accurately predicted HCC recurrence beyond MC in this international validation. Although the risk of recurrence beyond MC decreased over time, it never reached zero.

Association between metformin prescription and growth rates of abdominal aortic aneurysms.
It has been suggested that diabetes medications, such as metformin, may have effects that inhibit abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) growth. The aim of this study was to examine the association of diabetes treatments with AAA growth in three patient cohorts. ⋯ These findings suggest a potential role for metformin in limiting AAA growth.

Multicenter StudyIntravenous immunoglobulin for maintenance treatment of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy: a multicentre, open-label, 52-week phase III trial.
Short-term efficacy of induction therapy with intravenous immunoglobulin (Ig) in patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is well established. However, data of previous studies on maintenance therapy were limited up to 24-week treatment period. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of longer-term intravenous Ig therapy for 52 weeks. ⋯ Maintenance treatment with 1.0 g/kg intravenous Ig every 3 weeks is an efficacious therapy for patients with CIDP, and approximately 70% of them had a sustained remission for 52 weeks. Thrombotic complications should be carefully monitored, particularly in elderly patients with vascular risk factors.
