The addition of adjuvant embolization to radiosurgery has been proposed as a means of improving treatment outcomes of intracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). However, the relative efficacy and safety of radiosurgery with adjuvant embolization vs radiosurgery alone remain uncertain. Moreover, previous systematic reviews and meta-analyses have included a limited number of studies and did not consider the effects of baseline characteristics, including AVM volume, on the outcomes. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the efficacy of preradiosurgery embolization for intracranial AVMs with consideration to matching status between participants in each treatment group. ⋯ This study provides evidence that although preradiosurgery embolization is a suitable option to reduce the AVM size for future radiosurgical interventions, it may not be useful for same-sized AVMs eligible for radiosurgery. Utilization of preradiosurgery embolization in suitable lesions for radiosurgery may result in the added cost and burden of an endovascular procedure.

Sarcopenia increases mortality risk in liver transplantation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Liver transplantation is an efficacious treatment option for those with liver cirrhosis. However, the prognostic role of sarcopenia in these patients is unknown. Given this background, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the impact of sarcopenia on mortality in patients listed, evaluated and undergoing liver transplantation. ⋯ Sarcopenia was significantly linked with an increased risk of mortality in patients listed, evaluated, and undergoing a liver transplantation, indicating the need of interventional studies in this special population with the main aim to reverse this potential reversible condition and decrease mortality risk.

External treatment of traditional Chinese medicine for cancer pain: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.
Cancer pain is one of the most intolerable and frightening symptoms of cancer patients. However, the clinical effect of the three-step analgesic ladder method (TSAL) is not satisfactory. The combination of external treatment of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can improve the clinical effect. ⋯ TSAL combined with manual acupuncture is the best in terms of clinical efficacy and improvement of patients' functional activity status. With the extension of treatment time, the intervention of this kind of treatment on the clinical effect is more pronounced. Acupoint external application also has a unique advantage in reducing the pain level of patients. From the point of view of analgesic duration and duration of analgesia, combined acupoint moxibustion has the best effect.

A high incidence of anatomical variations in the origin of the branches of the aortic arch has been reported, Nowadays, this variation is considered the most frequent in the aortic arch, its prevalence being estimated between 0.5% and 2.5% of the population. To understand its origin, knowledge of embryonic development is necessary. ⋯ ARSA can cause several types of alterations in the cervical or thoracic region, resulting in various clinical complications, such as lusory dysphagia. Hence, knowing this variant is extremely important for surgeons, especially those who treat the cervico-thoracic region. The low prevalence of ARSA means that many professionals are completely unaware of its existence and possible course and origin. Therefore, this study provides detailed knowledge of ARSA so that professionals can make better diagnoses and treatment of ARSA.

Efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture for benign prostatic hyperplasia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. ⋯ EA is effective in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia with acceptable overall safety.
