The prognostic impact of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infection has not been well evaluated. We estimated the prognostic implications of AF in SARS-CoV-2 confirmed patients. The OpenData4Covid19 (https://hira-covid19.net) project is a global research collaboration on coronavirus disease (COVID-19), hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Korea and the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service of Korea. ⋯ However, AF was not an independent predictor of the primary endpoint (OR: 1.402, 95% CI: 0.932-2.108). Patients with AF and concomitant SARS-CoV-2 infection had more comorbidities and a worse prognosis. However, an independent association between AF and adverse clinical outcomes was not evident.

Assessment of the prevalence and prognostic value of gastroenterological manifestations in patients with COVID-19. ⋯ The present study has demonstrated that gastroenterological symptoms are detected in about one in four patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and multiply the risk of adverse and life-threatening complications of COVID-19.

Radix Isatidis (Banlangen) is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of different diseases and prevention of many body disorders. Besides, it also plays a pivotal role in novel coronavirus pneumonia, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, few researchers know its active ingredients and mechanism of action for COVID-19. ⋯ The analysis of the biological process of gene ontology and the enrichment of Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes signaling pathway suggests that Banlangen participated in the biological processes of protein phosphatase binding, tetrapyrrole binding, the apoptotic process involving cysteine-type endopeptidase activity, etc. The COVID-19 may be treated by regulating advanced glycation end products/a receptor for advanced glycation end products signaling pathway, interleukin-17 signaling pathway, tumor necrosis factor signaling pathway, sphingolipid signaling pathway, and p53 signaling pathway. Banlangen has a potential pharmacological effect on COVID-19, which has the value of further exploration in the following experiment and clinical application.

The prognostic value of the SOFA score in patients with COVID-19: A retrospective, observational study.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can lead to serious illness and death, and thus, it is particularly important to predict the severity and prognosis of COVID-19. The Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score has been used to predict the clinical outcomes of patients with multiple organ failure requiring intensive care. Therefore, we retrospectively analyzed the clinical characteristics, risk factors, and relationship between the SOFA score and the prognosis of COVID-19 patients. ⋯ Regarding the 60-day mortality rates of patients in the 2 groups classified by the optimal cutoff value of the SOFA score (5), patients in the high SOFA score group (SOFA score ≥5) had a significantly greater risk of death than those in the low SOFA score group (SOFA score < 5). The SOFA score could be used to evaluate the severity and 60-day mortality of COVID-19. The SOFA score may be an independent risk factor for in-hospital death.
