Meningiomas are the most common extra-axial primary central nervous system tumors. There is no effective treatment or targeted therapy for meningioma except excision and radiotherapy. glycogen synthesis kinase 3β interaction protein (GSKIP) is an A-kinase anchor protein that has cytosolic scaffolding function and binds to a protein kinase A and glycogen synthesis kinase 3β to modulate different biological processes and malignant tumorigenesis through the Wnt pathway. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between GSKIP expression and the clinico-pathological parameters in meningioma using immunohistochemical staining. ⋯ Chi-square, Kaplan-Meier method, and cox regression were used to analyze the correlation between clinical parameters and immunohistochemistry staining for GSKIP. Following our immunohistochemical score, we found that higher expression of GSKIP was associated with high World Health Organization grading, recurrence, malignant transformation, and reduced overall survival time and recurrence-free survival time in meningioma. GSKIP may be a biomarker of poor prognosis and a target protein for therapy in meningioma.

Pituitary apoplexy is an uncommon syndrome that often results in spontaneous hemorrhage or infarction of pituitary tumors or glands. We previously reported pituitary apoplexy occurred most frequently in nonfunctional pituitary adenomas among all types of pituitary incidentalomas. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the characteristics of pituitary apoplexy in patients with incidental nonfunctional pituitary adenomas. 65 patients with pituitary incidentaloma were enrolled. ⋯ Hence, the present study indicated that pituitary apoplexy could not be related to tumor diameter. Moreover, hormonal deficiencies, hepatic dysfunction, hyponatremia or hypochloremia, and dyslipidemia might be indicators of pituitary apoplexy. There could be the possibility the treatment for dyslipidemia prevents pituitary apoplexy.

Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are posited to effect flow dynamics, causing turbulence, vascular remodeling and eventual thrombosis; however, minimal data exists evaluating hemodynamic effects of IVC filters in vivo. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in hemodynamic flow parameters acquired with two-dimension (2D)-perfusion angiography before and after IVC filter placement or retrieval. 2D-perfusion images were reconstructed retrospectively from digital subtraction angiography from a cohort of 37 patients (13F/24M) before and after filter placement (n = 18) or retrieval (n = 23). Average dwell time was 239.5 ± 132.1 days. ⋯ After retrieval, ROIs within and inferior to the filter showed a significantly shorter TTP (1.7 vs 1.4 s, P = .004; 1.5 vs 1.3 s, P = .001, respectively) and MTT (1.7 vs 1.4 s, P = .003; 1.5 vs 1.2 s, P = .002, respectively). Difference in variables showed no significant correlation when compared to dwell time. 2D-perfusion angiography is feasible to evaluate hemodynamic effects of IVC filters in vivo. TTP and MTT within and below the filter after retrieval were significantly changed, without apparent correlation to dwell time, suggesting a functional hemodynamic delay secondary to filter presence.

Fork head box p3 (FOXP3), the specific transcription factors of Tregs, not only in Tregs, but also expressed in cancer cells of certain malignant tumors. The histological positioning of FOXP3 in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its biological significance are still unclear. This study aims to clarify the biological function of FOXP3 in NSCLC through bioinformatics analysis. ⋯ KEGG signaling pathway was enriched in T cell receptor signaling pathway, Jak-STAT signaling pathway, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction. Finally, we observed that FOXP3 expression correlated with infiltration of CD8 + T cells (R = 0.276, P = 5.90E-10), CD4 + T cells (R = 0.643, P = 6.81E-58), neutrophils (R = 0.525, P = 1.57E-35), and dendritic cells (R = 0.608, P = 1.35E-50) in lung adenocarcinoma, the same results were observed in lung squamous cell carcinoma. The infiltration of FOXP3-positive Tregs might promote the malignant progression of NSCLC, and targeted intervention of Tregs may be a potential treatment option for patients with NSCLC.

There are many stroke patients with decreased phonation ability. Vitamin D is associated with weakness in muscle power and a decreased function of activity and is often accompanied by a deficiency of serum vitamin D in stroke patients. This study was conducted to evaluate the correlation between serum vitamin D level and phonetic function in subacute stroke patients. ⋯ A positive correlation was found between vitamin D levels and the DSI of /a/, /u/, /i/, and/ae/. The DSI of/u/ was significantly lower in the group with vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D level was associated with phonation function and its deficiency may be a factor in predicting phonation severity in stroke patients.
