Falls are a major concern for people of all ages, especially older adults with declining physical functions and deteriorating muscle strength. The Five Times Sit to Stand Test is used for the assessment of lower limb strength along with balance and postural control. Therefore, the systematic review at hand aimed to determine the optimal procedure and characteristics among older adults. ⋯ The Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test is a safe test, providing added value to apply risk for falls in people at moderate risk and in healthy populations using standardized chair heights and stopwatches.

ReviewCognitive rehabilitation for people with mild to moderate dementia.
Cognitive impairments affect functional ability in people with dementia. Cognitive rehabilitation (CR) is a personalised, solution-focused approach that aims to enable people with mild-to-moderate dementia to manage everyday activities and maintain as much independence as possible. ⋯ CR is helpful in enabling people with mild or moderate dementia to improve their ability to manage the everyday activities targeted in the intervention. Confidence in these findings could be strengthened if more high-quality studies contributed to the observed effects. The available evidence suggests that CR can form a valuable part of a clinical toolkit to assist people with dementia in overcoming some of the everyday barriers imposed by cognitive and functional difficulties. Future research, including process evaluation studies, could help identify avenues to maximise CR effects and achieve wider impacts on functional ability and wellbeing.

Correction of calcium, phosphorus, and parathyroid hormone disorders is the standard of treatment in nondialysis patients with chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD). However, the side effects and adverse reactions are still the main problems. Moreover, the lack of protection of kidney function in the treatment dramatically affects patients' health. Although Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically tonifying kidney and strengthen bone (TKSB) therapy, is wildly applied to patients with CKD-MBD in China, the evidence of TKSB therapy in the treatment of CKD-MBD is limited. Thus, we conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TKSB therapy combined with Western medicine (WM) for nondialysis patients with CKD-MBD. ⋯ The systematic review found that TKSB therapy combined with WM has a positive effect on improving renal function and correcting bone metabolism disorder in nondialysis patients with CKD-MBD, which shows that Traditional Chinese Medicine is effective and safe in treating CKD-MBD. However, more high-quality, large-sample, multicenter clinical trials should be conducted to assess the safety and efficacy of TKSB therapy in treating nondialysis patients with CKD-MBD.Systematic review registration: INPLASY2020120086.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the third most common cause of death around the world. The affected patients suffer not only from impaired lung function, but also from a wide variety of comorbidities. Their cardiac comorbidities, in particular, lead to increased mortality. ⋯ As patients with COPD are often multimorbid, the early diagnosis and adequate treatment not only of their lung disease, but also of their extrapulmonary comorbidities are very important. Well-established diagnostic instruments and well-tested treatments are available and are described in detail in the guidelines concerning the comorbidities. Preliminary observations suggest that more attention should be paid to the potential positive effects of treating comorbidities on the lung disease itself, and vice versa.

Acupuncture is effective in the treatment of postprandial distress syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Traditional Chinese medicine advocates the use of acupuncture for the treatment of postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) in people with Functional dyspepsia, but large clinical trials of acupuncture have produced controversial results. This study aims to confirm the clinical significance of acupuncture in the treatment of PDS . ⋯ This study analyzed the effects of acupuncture on PDS from 5 aspects: overall therapeutic rate, SID, HADS, NDI, and side effects, overall therapeutic rate as primary outcome measure. Statistical analysis results showed that acupuncture has a significant effect on the treatment of PDS. In conclusion, it is an effective clinical treatment method. Also, the potential bias in the included studies, high-quality studies are needed to further confirm the possible side effects of acupuncture in treatment.
