ReviewPro's and con's of different blocks for postoperative analgesia after video-assisted thoracic surgery.
Although there are a lot of studies examining the effects of different blocks for postoperative analgesia after video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), the results are controversial. ⋯ All three blocks can be suggested for daily practice, the choice should be based on personal experience and preference of the anesthetist. Better studies are required for objective decision.

Electroencephalogram burst suppression can be associated with postoperative delirium; however, the results of relevant studies are discrepant. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the association between intraoperative burst suppression and postoperative delirium in adult surgical patients. ⋯ The meta-analysis suggests an association between intraoperative burst suppression and postoperative delirium; however, the quality of evidence was very low. The limited number of studies and substantial heterogeneity across them emphasize the need for further high-quality studies to establish a more robust conclusion.

Narrative review: Managing buprenorphine and opioid use disorder in the perioperative setting.
The opioid epidemic continues to have a staggering impact on millions of individuals and families across all socioeconomic levels and communities. Recent studies suggest high numbers of patients presenting for surgery with reported opioid misuse and/or opioid use disorder (OUD). Anesthesiologists often lack basic education to treat patients suffering with OUD or patients in recovery from this treatable disease. This manuscript will provide a review of the American Society of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Multisociety Working Group Practice Advisory recommendations on existing OUD treatment barriers and perioperative management best practices; it will also demonstrate the benefits that greater involvement of the anesthesiologist can have in managing patients with OUD perioperatively.

Previous meta-analyses of intravenous iron supplementation for reducing red blood cell (RBC) transfusion risk after cardiac surgery were inconclusive because of limited data. This updated meta-analysis incorporates recent evidence. ⋯ CRD42024542206 (PROSPERO).

This review provides insight into recent clinical studies involving septic peri-operative patients and highlights gaps in understanding fluid management. The aim is to enhance the understanding of safe fluid resuscitation to optimize peri-operative outcomes and reduce complications. ⋯ Optimization of peri-operative fluid management is crucial for improving surgical outcomes and reducing postoperative complications in patients with sepsis. Individualized and GDFT using BS is the preferred approach for fluid resuscitation in septic peri-operative patients. Future research should evaluate the interaction between clinical anaesthesia and EG, its implications on fluid resuscitation, and the impact of GDFT in septic peri-operative patients.
