Multicenter StudyPerioperative Iron Deficiency in Patients Scheduled for Major Elective Surgeries: A French Prospective Multicenter Cross-Sectional Study.
The management of perioperative iron deficiency is a component of the concept of patient blood management. The objective of this study was to update French data on the prevalence of iron deficiency in patients scheduled for major surgery. ⋯ Iron deficiency was present in half of patients scheduled for major surgery. However, few treatments to correct iron deficiency were implemented preoperatively or postoperatively. There is an urgent need for action to improve these outcomes, including better patient blood management.

Validation of Chinese version of a global anesthetic recovery questionnaire: A multicenter observational trial on ObsQoR-11.
The obstetric quality of recovery (ObsQoR-11) is considered one of the best patient-reported outcome measures of post-cesarean recovery. However, it has been neither validated in Chinese nor evaluated at >24 h after delivery. ⋯ The Chinese ObsQoR-11may be used for assessing recovery at 24 h and 96 h after cesarean delivery. However, its' cutoff value for good recovery may be lower than that of other versions.

Prolonged Opioid Use and Pain Outcome And Associated Factors after Surgery Under General Anesthesia: A Prospective Cohort Association Multicenter Study.
There is insufficient prospective evidence regarding the relationship between surgical experience and prolonged opioid use and pain. The authors investigated the association of patient characteristics, surgical procedure, and perioperative anesthetic course with postoperative opioid consumption and pain 3 months postsurgery. The authors hypothesized that patient characteristics and intraoperative factors predict opioid consumption and pain 3 months postsurgery. ⋯ Preoperative opioid use was the strongest predictor of opioid use 3 months postsurgery. None of the other variables showed clinically significant association with opioid use at 3 months after surgery.

Multicenter StudyCritical Care and Mechanical Ventilation Practices Surrounding Liver Transplantation in Children: A Multicenter Collaborative.
We aimed to determine which characteristics and management approaches were associated with postoperative invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) and with a prolonged course of IMV in children post liver transplant as well as describing the utilization of critical care resources. ⋯ Younger age, preoperative hospitalization, large center size, and open fascia are associated with use of IMV, and younger age, large center size, and postoperative day 0 PIP are associated with prolonged IMV on multivariable analysis. Longer IMV is associated with negative outcomes, making it an important clinical marker.

Postoperative acute kidney injury by age and sex: a retrospective cohort association study.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) after noncardiac surgery is common and has substantial health impact. Preclinical and clinical studies examining the influence of sex on AKI have yielded conflicting results, although they typically do not account for age-related changes. The objective of the study was to determine the association of age and sex groups on postoperative AKI. The authors hypothesized that younger females would display lower risk of postoperative AKI than males of similar age, and the protection would be lost in older females. ⋯ Younger females display a lower odds of postoperative AKI that gradually increases with age. These results suggest that age-related changes in women should be further studied as modifiers of postoperative AKI risk after noncardiac surgery.
