Emergency department (ED) visits may serve as opportunities for firearm injury prevention and intervention efforts. Our objective was to determine ED utilization by youth before and after firearm injury. ⋯ Youth have high rates of ED utilization before and after firearm injury. Half of firearm-injured youth receive their emergency care exclusively in general EDs. Implementing firearm injury prevention and intervention efforts in all ED settings is critical.

Nelonemdaz Treatment for Patients With Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
Nelonemdaz is a N-methyl d-aspartate receptor subtype 2B-selective N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist and a potent free-radical scavenger that might ameliorate hypoxic-ischemic brain injury after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). We investigated the efficacy of nelonemdaz for patients with OHCA. ⋯ Nelonemdaz treatment of patients after OHCA did not reduce serum NSE levels compared with controls. Patients treated with high-dose nelonemdaz showed higher brain MRI fractional anisotropy suggesting less cerebral white matter damage.

Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is a highly morbid acute digestive disorder linked to pyroptosis. N-acetyltransferase 10 (NAT10) facilitates the production of N4-acetylcytidine (ac4C) modifications in mRNA, thereby contributing to the progression of various diseases. However, the specific role of NAT10 in SAP remains to be elucidated. ⋯ Moreover, NAT10 knockdown alleviated pancreatic tissue pathology, mitigated SAP severity, and suppressed pyroptosis in an SAP rat model. Collectively, these results demonstrate that NAT10 exacerbates pancreatic injury in SAP by promoting pyroptosis through ac4C modification of NLRP3, thereby enhancing its expression. These findings suggest a potential novel therapeutic target for SAP.

Significant Disparities in Adolescents With Severe Traumatic Brain Injury Across Trauma Center Types: Wide Variation of Tracheostomy and Gastrostomy.
To explore practice variations in the rate and timing of tracheostomy and gastrostomy for adolescent with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) across trauma center types. ⋯ Our results offer insights into the existing current practice variations between ATC, MTC, and PTC in tracheostomy and gastrostomy placement for adolescent with severe TBI. Further research is warranted to examine the impact of these observed disparities on short- and long-term outcomes and to standardize the care process for adolescent patients.
