Incidence and Recurrence of Deep Spine Surgical Site Infections: A Systematic Review and meta-analysis.
Systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ The pooled incidence rate of deep SSI post-thoracolumbar spinal surgery is 1.5%. The rate of recurrence and repeat debridement is at least 12%, up to 25%. Persistent infection is a significant risk, highlighting the need for standardized treatment protocols. Our review further demonstrates heterogeneity in management strategies. Large-scale prospective studies are needed to develop better evidence around deep SSI incidence and management in the instrumented thoracolumbar adult spinal fusion population.

Meta AnalysisRisk of second primary lung cancer in patients with thyroid cancer: a meta-analysis based on big population studies.
Previous studies have revealed that the number of cancer survivors developing a second primary malignancy is increasing, especially among thyroid cancer patients, and lung cancer is still the main cause of cancer death. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the risk of second primary lung cancer (SPLC) in patients with thyroid cancer. ⋯ International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews: No. CRD42021285399.

Meta AnalysisPredictors of Noninvasive Ventilation Failure in the Post-Extubation Period: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
To identify factors associated with failure of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) in the post-extubation period. ⋯ We identified several prognostic factors before and 1 hour after NIV initiation associated with increased risk of NIV failure in the post-extubation period. Well-designed prospective studies are required to confirm the prognostic importance of these factors to help further guide clinical decision-making.

Revisiting primary endocrine therapy versus surgery in older women with breast cancer: meta-analysis.
Old age is associated with increased co-morbidities, resulting in reduced life expectancy. Primary endocrine therapy is an alternative to primary surgical therapy for patients with breast cancer and increased co-morbidities. The aim was to review outcomes of primary endocrine therapy versus primary surgical therapy in older women with breast cancer. ⋯ Overall survival was worse among older women receiving primary endocrine therapy in an analysis including all studies, but comparable in RCTs and prospective studies. This may be due to confounding by age and co-morbidities in retrospective cohort studies of primary endocrine therapy.

The association between statin use and prognosis in esophageal cancer patients: A meta-analysis.
The impact of statin use on the survival of esophageal cancer patients remains unclear now. The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between statin use and the long-term survival of esophageal cancer patients. ⋯ Statin use is significantly associated with improved long-term survival of esophageal cancer patients and might serve as a promising prognostic indicator in esophageal cancer. However, more prospective high-quality studies are still needed to verify our findings.
