Hemodynamic changes are independent risk factors for long-term patient morbidity and duration of hospital stay. According to the statistics, the three most prevalent complications in the postanaesthesia care unit were airway events, haemodynamic instability, and postoperative nausea and vomiting. Hemodynamic instability in the postanaesthesia care unit can result in serious complications, such as long-term patient morbidity and prolonged hospital stays. This study aimed to determine the incidence and factors associated with haemodynamic changes among adult surgical patients in the postanaesthetic care unit. ⋯ In general, 93 study subjects (22.7%) experienced advanced haemodynamic instability during the intraoperative period. This implies that the incidence of hemodynamic instability was high. Intraoperative haemodynamic instability, American Society of Anaesthesiology class III, postoperative respiratory adverse events, neurologic and gynaecological procedures, use of neuraxial anaesthesia, and prolonged duration of procedures were predictors of haemodynamic instability in the postanaesthesia care unit.

To assess rates of surgical complications and postoperative readmission in diabetic patients with and without active perioperative prescriptions for GLP-1 RA medications. ⋯ An active perioperative GLP-1 RA prescription in patients with diabetes was associated with significant reductions in risk-adjusted readmission, wound dehiscence, and hematoma, and no difference in infection and bleeding rates. Further study is warranted to elucidate any causal association.

Opioid consumption in the first 30 days after surgery was independently associated with new persistent opioid use.
Previous studies suggest that new persistent opioid use (NPOU) after surgery was associated with larger perioperative opioid prescriptions, but the association between NPOU and postoperative opioid consumption is unknown. ⋯ Demonstrating that opioid consumption in the first 30 days after surgery was independently associated with NPOU underscores the importance of perioperative opioid prescribing on long-term outcomes.

Background and Objectives: Postoperative pneumonia and complications significantly impact outcomes in thoracic surgery, particularly for patients undergoing lobectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study evaluates whether preoperative premedication influences the risk of postoperative pneumonia and overall complications. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 346 patients who underwent lobectomy for NSCLC at the University Hospital Ostrava between 2015 and 2021. ⋯ Similarly, other clinical variables, such as age, ASA classification, BMI, and surgical approach, also did not show significant associations with these outcomes. These findings suggest that premedication can be individualised without increasing postoperative risks. However, tumour size emerged as a significant factor associated with complications, highlighting the need for careful preoperative assessment and planning, particularly in patients with larger tumours.
