Effects of Art on Surgical Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
The aim of the study was to assess the effect of art including ambient features such as music, interior design including visual art, and architectural features on health outcomes in surgical patients. ⋯ Self-selected music for surgical patients is an effective and low-cost intervention to enhance well being and possibly faster recovery. Although potentially very important, the impact of environmental features and spacious architecture with wide access to sunlight remains poorly explored in surgery. Further experimental research is needed to better assess the magnitude of the impact and cost effectiveness.

Review Meta AnalysisA systematic review and meta-analysis of acute severe complications of pediatric anesthesia.
Quantification of acute severe complications of pediatric anesthesia is essential to plan clinical guidelines and educational curricula. ⋯ The data on pediatric anesthesia acute severe complications are poorly defined with large variation in the specificity of diagnostic reporting even within studies. We suggest that it is vital for future studies in this area to be based on a standardized system of diagnostic reporting (possibly with a hierarchical system of coding) with adequate description of population details to describe heterogeneity of data.

Review Meta AnalysisOutcome and complications of endovascular embolization for vein of Galen malformations: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
There have been many multidisciplinary approaches to the treatment of vein of Galen malformations. Endovascular embolization is the first option for treatment. However, the effects of the treatment remain controversial. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of endovascular embolization to treat patients with vein of Galen malformations. ⋯ The successful treatment of vein of Galen malformations remains a complex therapeutic challenge. The authors' analysis of clinical history and research literature suggests that vein of Galen malformations treated with endovascular embolization can result in an acceptable mortality rate, complications, and good clinical outcome. Future large-scale, multicenter, randomized trials are necessary to confirm these findings.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyComparison of Anterior Decompression and Fusion With Posterior Laminoplasty for Multilevel Cervical Compressive Myelopathy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ On the basis of this meta-analysis, anterior decompression and fusion is associated with better recovery of neurological function, better postoperative cervical alignment, higher postoperative complication and reoperation rates, more blood loss, and longer operative times compared with posterior laminoplasty.

The fragility of statistically significant findings from randomized trials in spine surgery: a systematic survey.
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are the most trustworthy source for evaluating treatment effects, but RCTs of spine surgery interventions often produce discordant results. The Fragility Index is a novel metric to inform about the robustness of statistically significant results. ⋯ Statistically significant results in spine surgery RCTs are frequently fragile. The addition of only a small number of outcome events can completely eliminate significance. Surgeons, researchers, and other evidence users should exercise caution when interpreting the findings from RCTs with low Fragility Index values and applying these results to patient care.
