Meta Analysis
Clinical efficacy of botulinum toxin type A in the treatment of fasciitis pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The purpose of this meta-analysis was to assess the effectiveness of botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) in reducing pain associated with fasciitis. By synthesizing the findings from multiple studies, we aimed to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the current evidence regarding the efficacy of BoNT-A in the treatment of fasciitis pain. ⋯ BoNT-A has a significant analgesic effect on fasciitis pain. Therefore, BoNT-A presents a promising alternative treatment option for fasciitis (PROSPERO 2022: CRD42022382805).

Neuronavigation improves intraoperative visualization of the cranial structures, which is valuable in percutaneous surgical treatments for patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN) who are refractory to pharmacotherapy or reluctant to receive open surgery. The objective of this review was to evaluate the available neuronavigation-guided percutaneous surgical treatment modalities with cannulation of foramen ovale to TN, and their relative benefits and limitations. ⋯ Neuronavigation-guided percutaneous trigeminal rhizotomies showed possible superior pain relief outcomes to that of conventional rhizotomies in TN, with the benefits of radiation reduction and lower complication development rates. The limitations of neuronavigation remain its high cost and limited availability. Higher-quality prospective studies and randomized clinical trials of neuronavigation-guided percutaneous trigeminal rhizotomy were lacking.

Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) represents a notable clinical challenge as it is the most prevalent and severe complication of herpes zoster (HZ). The primary objective was to investigate the current research status and hotspots of PHN research during the period from 2000 to 2022. The literature pertaining to PHN was gathered through the utilization of the Web of Science Core Collection, spanning from January 2000 to December 2022. ⋯ Contemporary scholarly investigations are predominantly centered on identifying risk factors, devising preventative measures, and exploring novel and secure methods of pain management. The current investigation has revealed the focal areas and patterns of studies pertaining to PHN. Presently, the research in this field is focused on identifying the risk factors and preventive measures for PHN, alongside exploring novel and secure pain management strategies.

Effects of music therapy on pain relief during fundus screening in infants: Randomized controlled clinical trial.
To determine the efficacy of music therapy on pain relief during fundus screening in infants. ⋯ Music therapy can effectively reduce pain and crying, and increase blood oxygen saturation during fundus examination of infants. Music with a rhythm of 60 to 80 beats per minute can decrease HR. Music therapy must be remembered to increase infants' comfort during fundus examination.

Placebo analgesia and nocebo hyperalgesia in patients with Alzheimer disease and healthy participants.
The role of placebo analgesia and nocebo hyperalgesia in patients with Alzheimer disease (AD) is largely unknown, with only few studies in the area. Therefore, this study aims to investigate to which extent placebo analgesia and nocebo hyperalgesia effects are present in patients experiencing mild-to-moderate AD. Twenty-one patients with AD (test population) and 26 healthy participants (HP; design validation) were exposed to thermal pain stimulation on 3 test days: Lidocaine condition (open/hidden lidocaine administration), capsaicin condition (open/hidden capsaicin administration), and natural history (no treatment), in a randomized, within-subject design. ⋯ With a well-controlled experimental setting, this study suggests that patients with AD may not experience placebo analgesia effects. Nocebo hyperalgesia effects in patients with AD needs further research. These findings may have implications for the conduction of clinical trials and the treatment of patients with AD in clinical practice.
