Randomized Controlled Trial
B-type natriuretic peptide testing, clinical outcomes, and health services use in emergency department patients with dyspnea: a randomized trial.
B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is used to diagnose heart failure, but the effects of using the test on all dyspneic patients is uncertain. ⋯ Janssen-Cilag.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA randomized controlled trial of nurse-led care for symptomatic moderate-severe obstructive sleep apnea.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent disease. Often limited clinical resources result in long patient waiting lists. Simpler validated methods of care are needed. ⋯ A simplified nurse-led model of care has demonstrated noninferior results to physician-directed care in the management of symptomatic moderate-severe OSA, while being less costly. Clinical trial registered with http://www.anzctr.org.au (ACTRN012605000064606).

Predictive power of serum NSE and OHCA score regarding 6-month neurologic outcome after out-of-hospital ventricular fibrillation and therapeutic hypothermia.
To determine the predictive power of the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) score and serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in patients resuscitated from ventricular fibrillation treated with therapeutic hypothermia (TH) and glucose control. ⋯ Increase in NSE between 24 and 48h and NSE at 48h is specific but only moderately sensitive markers of 6-month outcome. Outcome prediction at ICU admission using the OHCA score was not possible in this selected patient population.

Randomized Controlled TrialFurosemide does not improve renal recovery after hemofiltration for acute renal failure in critically ill patients: a double blind randomized controlled trial.
To study the potential beneficial role of furosemide in resolving renal failure after hemofiltration in mechanically ventilated critically ill patients. ⋯ Furosemide by continuous infusion in the recovery phase of hemofiltration-dependent acute kidney failure did increase urinary volume and sodium excretion but did not lead to a shorter duration of renal failure or more frequent renal recovery.

Predictors of outcome after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion: a multivariate analysis.
Retrospective cohort study. ⋯ We found that important predictors of outcome were work status, sensory function, involvement in litigation, and higher disability scores.
