The aims of this bibliometric analysis were (1) a longitudinal analysis of the publication landscape in the field of pain (1975-2020) and (2) to characterize the overall publication profiles for two selected journals: European Journal of Pain and PAIN® utilizing an automated approach. ⋯ The bibliometric analysis of a pain journal provides information on which specific areas of research are published, how this may have changed over the years and how a journal is positioned compared with other journals in the field.

Application of Cardiovascular Physiology to the Critically Ill Patient.
To use the ventricular pressure-volume relationship and time-varying elastance model to provide a foundation for understanding cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology, interpreting advanced hemodynamic monitoring, and for illustrating the physiologic basis and hemodynamic effects of therapeutic interventions. We will build on this foundation by using a cardiovascular simulator to illustrate the application of these principles in the care of patients with severe sepsis, cardiogenic shock, and acute mechanical circulatory support. ⋯ The ventricular pressure-volume relationship and time-varying elastance model provide a foundation for understanding cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology. We have built on this foundation by using a cardiovascular simulator to illustrate the application of these important principles and have demonstrated how complex pathophysiologic abnormalities alter clinical parameters used by the clinician at the bedside.

Background: Recent studies have shown that ferroptosis is involved in the evolution of acute lung injury (ALI), a serious respiratory pathological process leading to death. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying ferroptosis in ALI remain largely unknown. The current study analyzed and identified a ferroptosis-related gene signature for ALI. ⋯ Besides, the ferroptosis-related molecules GPX4 and ACSL4 showed remarkable difference in these models. Conclusion: These results indicate that PROK2 , IL6 , TNF , and SLC7A11 may be key regulatory targets of ferroptosis during ALI. This study proved that ferroptosis is a common pathophysiological process in three ALI models.

Painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN) is one of the most common and intractable complications of diabetes. Painful diabetic neuropathy is characterized by neuropathic pain accompanied by dorsal root ganglion (DRG) nociceptor hyperexcitability, axonal degeneration, and changes in cutaneous innervation. However, the complete molecular profile underlying the hyperexcitable cellular phenotype of DRG nociceptors in PDN has not been elucidated. ⋯ Furthermore, in vivo calcium imaging allowed us to demonstrate that activation of Mrgprd-positive cutaneous afferents that persist in diabetic mice skin resulted in an increased intracellular calcium influx into DRG nociceptors that we assess in vivo as a readout of nociceptors hyperexcitability. Taken together, our data highlight a key role of Mrgprd-mediated DRG neuron excitability in the generation and maintenance of neuropathic pain in a mouse model of PDN. Hence, we propose Mrgprd as a promising and accessible target for developing effective therapeutics currently unavailable for treating neuropathic pain in PDN.
