ReviewEducation of schoolchildren in cardiopulmonary resuscitation - overview of the current literature.
Recognition of cardiac arrest and initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can be learned and adequately replicated by schoolchildren. Regular instruction of schoolchildren in CPR is therefore a core element to increase low bystander CPR rates. Thereby, schoolchildren CPR training evolved as own scientific field within the last decade. Aim was to describe current evidence in terms of epidemiology, teaching approaches and political aspects. ⋯ While bystander CPR rates are low in Europe comprehensive establishment of schoolchildren CPR training may sustainably increase survival after cardiac arrest.

ReviewDecision-making in anesthesiology: will artificial intelligence make intraoperative care safer?
This article explores the impact of recent applications of artificial intelligence on clinical anesthesiologists' decision-making. ⋯ To fully realize the benefits of artificial intelligence in anesthesiology, several important considerations must be addressed, including its usability and workflow integration, appropriate level of trust placed on artificial intelligence, its impact on decision-making, the potential de-skilling of practitioners, and issues of accountability. Further research is needed to enhance anesthesiologists' clinical decision-making in collaboration with artificial intelligence.

The aim of this article is to briefly review the pediatric ambulatory surgery landscape, identify two of the most common comorbidities affecting this population, examine the influence of pediatric obesity and sleep disordered breathing (SDB)/obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on perioperative care, and provide information that can be used when formulating site specific criteria for ambulatory surgical centers. ⋯ Our pediatric ambulatory surgical population is anticipated to demonstrate increasing rates of obesity and SDB/OSA. Bringing attention to potential perioperative complications associated with these comorbidities provides a stronger foundation upon which to formulate criteria for individual ambulatory centers. It allows for targeted anesthetic management, influences provider assignments and/or staffing ratios, and informs scheduling times. For anesthesiologists who do not practice pediatric anesthesia daily, knowing what to anticipate plays a significant role in the ability to eliminate surprises and care for these patients safely.

ReviewThe role of renin-angiotensin system in sepsis-associated acute kidney injury: mechanisms and therapeutic implications.
This review aims to explore the relationship between the renin angiotensin system (RAS) and sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI), a common complication in critically ill patients associated with mortality, morbidity, and long-term cardiovascular complications. Additionally, this review aims to identify potential therapeutic approaches to intervene with the RAS and prevent the development of AKI. ⋯ SA-AKI is a common condition that can involve disturbances in the RAS, particularly the canonical angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) angiotensin-II (Ang II)/angiotensin II receptor 1 (AT-1R) axis. Increased renin levels, a key enzyme in the RAS, have been shown to be associated with AKI and may also guide vasopressor therapy in shock. In patients with high renin levels, angiotensin II administration may reduce renin concentration, improve intra-renal hemodynamics, and enhance signaling through the angiotensin II receptor 1. Further studies are needed to explore the role of the RAS in SA-AKI and the potential for targeted therapies.

Labor neuraxial analgesia may reduce the odds of postpartum hemorrhage, the leading indication for maternal blood transfusion during childbirth. This study tested the hypothesis that labor neuraxial analgesia is associated with reduced odds of maternal blood transfusion overall. ⋯ Labor neuraxial analgesia may be associated with reduced odds of maternal blood transfusion in intrapartum cesarean deliveries and, to a lesser extent, vaginal deliveries. The specific effect size varies widely by delivery mode and is unclear given the poor sensitivity of the data set for the maternal transfusion primary outcome.
