Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Opicapone as an adjunct to levodopa in patients with Parkinson's disease and end-of-dose motor fluctuations: a randomised, double-blind, controlled trial.
Opicapone is a novel, once-daily, potent third-generation catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitor. We aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of opicapone as an adjunct to levodopa compared with placebo or entacapone in patients with Parkinson's disease and motor fluctuations. ⋯ BIAL.

Is the Combination of Distal Pancreatectomy and Cytoreductive Surgery With HIPEC Reasonable? Results of an International Multicenter Study.
To report the morbidity and risk factors for overall complications and for pancreatic fistula (PF) after distal pancreatic resection (DP) during cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC). ⋯ With regard to reported morbi-mortality rates, DP associated with CRS/HIPEC may be a reasonable procedure in highly selected patients when done in high-volume centers. Therefore, distal pancreatic involvement should not be considered as a definitive contraindication for CRS/HIPEC in patients with resectable peritoneal surface disease.

Multicenter StudySurgical Site Infection Rates in Four Cities in Brazil: Findings of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium.
There are no data on surgical site infection (SSI) rates stratified by surgical procedures (SPs) in Brazil, and our objective was to report such rates. ⋯ Our SSI rates were greater in two of the four analyzed types of SPs compared with CDC-NHSN, but similar to most INICC rates. These findings on the epidemiology of SSI in Brazil will enable us to introduce targeted interventions for infection control.

Multicenter StudyVital Statistics: Estimating Injury Mortality in Kigali, Rwanda.
Globally, injury deaths largely occur in low- and middle-income countries. No estimates of injury associated mortality exist in Rwanda. This study aimed to describe the patterns of injury-related deaths in Kigali, Rwanda using existing data sources. ⋯ Injuries account for 22% of deaths in Kigali with road traffic crashes being the most common cause.Injury deaths occurred largely in the prehospital setting and within the first 24 h of hospital arrival suggesting the need for investment in emergency infrastructure. Accurate documentation of the cause of death would help policy makers make data-driven resource allocation decisions.

Variation in the risk of venous thromboembolism following colectomy.
Guidelines recommend extended thromboprophylaxis following colectomy for malignant disease, but not for non-malignant disease. The aim of this study was to determine absolute and relative rates of venous thromboembolism (VTE) following colectomy by indication, admission type and time after surgery. ⋯ Patients undergoing emergency colectomy for non-malignant disease have a similar risk of VTE as patients with malignant disease in the first month after surgery.
