Today, autologous skin transplantation is frequently used for full-thickness skin defects. There is still a high demand for new wound-healing products to replace autologous skin transplantation. ⋯ The new collagen-gelatin scaffold supports and accelerates dermal wound repair compared to untreated control wounds. Nevertheless, wound treatment with the scaffold was only performed on the first day. In further studies, the impact of multiple scaffold applications on full-thickness skin defects should be investigated.

Change of Outcomes in Pediatric Intestinal Failure: Use of Time-Series Analysis to Assess the Evolution of an Intestinal Rehabilitation Program.
The clinical picture of pediatric intestinal failure has changed over the past 15 years, while effectiveness evolving treatment options remains unclear. This study explored evolution in care and quantified independent effects of new treatment options. ⋯ Introduction of IRP and omega-3 lipids independently decreased disease-specific mortality. For the first time, time series analysis was applied to evaluate effectiveness of treatment options in intestinal rehabilitation.

Propensity score analysis of outcomes following laparoscopic or open liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma.
Liver resection is a potentially curative approach for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Laparoscopic liver resections may reduce complication rates, especially in patients with cirrhosis. The aim of this study was to compare the results of laparoscopic liver resection with those of open liver resection for HCC. ⋯ In comparison with the open approach, laparoscopic minor liver resections for HCC improved short-term outcomes, with similar survival results.

Our goal was to develop a predictive model that identifies how preoperative risk factors and perioperative complications lead to mortality after anatomic pulmonary resections. ⋯ The clinical factors that predict postoperative complications and mortality are multiple and not necessarily aligned. Efforts to improve quality after anatomic pulmonary resections should focus on mechanisms to address both types of adverse outcomes.
