Multicenter Study Comparative StudyIncreased burden on caregivers of having a child with haemophilia complicated by inhibitors.
Having a child with a chronic disease often increases the burden in the family with more hospital visits, treatment administration, and increased worries for the ill child. A cross-sectional, international, multi-centre study in caregivers of children <18 years with haemophilia and inhibitor was performed at Haemophilia Treatment Centres in Sweden, UK, and Canada to evaluate caregivers' burden and their health-related quality of life (HRQoL) compared to that of caregivers of children on prophylaxis without inhibitors and caregivers of healthy children. ⋯ Caregivers of children with inhibitors reported higher impact of the disease compared to caregivers of children with no inhibitors. No differences between mothers and fathers in the two groups for SF-36, Caregivers' Burden Scale, VAS and IOF, except for domain pain in SF-36 where mothers reported higher impairments.

Burden in caregivers of cognitively impaired elderly adults at time of hospitalization: a cross-sectional analysis.
To describe the factors associated with burden that caregivers of cognitively impaired older adults (dementia, delirium, or both) at the time of hospitalization experienced. ⋯ These findings suggest that caregivers of older adults who were cognitively impaired at hospital admission experience burden. Understanding the factors that contribute to burden at the time of hospitalization for caregivers of persons with cognitive impairment can inform the development of interventions targeted throughout the hospitalization that have the potential to decrease burden.

Training family members to manage heroin overdose and administer naloxone: randomized trial of effects on knowledge and attitudes.
To evaluate a heroin overdose management training programme for family members based on emergency recovery procedures and take-home naloxone (THN) administration. ⋯ Take-home naloxone training for family members of heroin users increases opioid overdose-related knowledge and competence and these benefits are well retained after 3 months.

Multicenter StudyA new Italian questionnaire to assess caregivers of cancer patients' satisfaction with palliative care: multicenter validation of the post mortem questionnaire-short form.
Caregiver satisfaction with palliative care is a crucial indicator of its effectiveness. In light of the lack of validated or reliable Italian instruments, the Post Mortem Questionnaire-Short Form (QPM-SF), a self-report questionnaire, has been developed to assess home and inpatient hospice care. ⋯ QPM-SF may be considered a valid, reliable, and well-accepted self-report instrument for examining and implementing palliative care interventions.

Cluster RCT of case management on patients' quality of life and caregiver strain in ALS.
To study the effect of case management on quality of life, caregiver strain, and perceived quality of care (QOC) in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and their caregivers. ⋯ This study provides Class III evidence that case management in addition to multidisciplinary ALS care does not significantly improve health-related quality of life of patients with ALS.
