NursPainPrevent: A Prospective Observational Study on Pain During a Bed Bath.
Although bed baths are known to cause pain, the engendered pain frequency and intensity remain poorly studied. This prospective, observational study was undertaken to examine prospectively, on a given day, patients' bed bath-associated pain in the general in-hospital population. ⋯ The results of this study could contribute to sensitizing professionals to preventing pain linked with routine nursing care. Four axes for improvement were highlighted: evaluation improvement, analgesia, nonpharmacological approaches, and adapted mobilization techniques.

Enhancing surgical precision: a novel electromyography finding for confident identification of the root exit zone during microvascular decompression surgery.
The lateral spread response (LSR) is an important electrophysiological sign that predicts successful decompression in patients undergoing microvascular decompression (MVD) for hemifacial spasm (HFS). However, LSRs do not consistently correlate with clinical outcomes, and there are cases in which LSRs are absent. In this study, the authors identified a unique pattern on facial nerve electromyography (EMG) when the root exit zone (REZ) is touched. This distinctive EMG pattern, which the authors coined the "Sang-ku sign" (SKS), could aid in identifying the offending vessel on the REZ, even in the absence of LSRs. ⋯ The SKS could serve as an excellent guide for the facial nerve REZ during surgery. Given that HFS results from abnormal vascular contact on the REZ, this finding plays a crucial role in ensuring surgical success. Alongside LSRs, the SKS could provide valuable insights for neurosurgeons.

To maximize impacts, greater understanding is needed regarding preferences and priorities of people experiencing or treating pain. ⋯ Including preferences of user groups can assist in creating resources that are likely to be useful for those with pain and their caregivers. Innovations are needed to address persisting gaps in care.

The effects of frailty on opioid consumption after total knee arthroplasty.
This study evaluated the effects of frailty on postoperative opioid consumption in elderly patients. ⋯ Our study results indicate that frailty, easily assessed preoperatively in elderly surgical patients, is a significant predictor of postoperative opioid consumption.

Does pain influence control of muscle force? A systematic review and meta-analysis.
In the presence of pain, whether clinical or experimentally induced, individuals commonly show impairments in the control of muscle force (commonly known as force steadiness). In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we synthesized the available evidence on the influence of clinical and experimental pain on force steadiness. ⋯ This systematic review and meta-analyses enhances our understanding of motor impairments observed in people experiencing musculoskeletal pain. It underscores the significance of incorporating force steadiness assessment when managing individuals experiencing musculoskeletal pain. Additionally, it suggests that future research should explore the potential benefits of force steadiness training in alleviating patients' symptoms and enhancing their functional performance. This could potentially lead to the development of innovative therapeutic approaches for individuals suffering from musculoskeletal pain.
