Opioids After Surgery in the United States Versus the Rest of the World: The International Patterns of Opioid Prescribing (iPOP) Multicenter Study.
The International Patterns of Opioid Prescribing study compares postoperative opioid prescribing patterns in the United States (US) versus the rest of the world. ⋯ US physicians prescribe alarmingly high amounts of opioid medications postoperatively. Further efforts should focus on limiting opioid prescribing and emphasize non-opioid alternatives in the US.

Reduced postoperative pain using Nociception Level-guided fentanyl dosing during sevoflurane anaesthesia: a randomised controlled trial.
The majority of postoperative patients report moderate to severe pain, possibly related to opioid underdosing or overdosing during surgery. Objective guidance of opioid dosing using the Nociception Level (NOL) index, a multiparameter artificial intelligence-driven index designed to monitor nociception during surgery, may lead to a more appropriate analgesic regimen, with effects beyond surgery. We tested whether NOL-guided opioid dosing during general anaesthesia results in less postoperative pain. ⋯ www.trialregister.nl under identifier NL7845.

Multicenter StudyPain response and quality of life assessment in patients with moderate/severe neuropathic pain due to bone metastasis undergoing treatment with palliative radiotherapy and tapentadol: A prospective multicentre pilot study.
To assess pain response rate (RR) and quality of life (QoL), in patients with moderate/severe neuropathic pain (NP) due to bone metastasis (BM) undergoing palliative 3D radiotherapy plus tapentadol. ⋯ Palliative radiotherapy plus tapentadol shows an acceptable pain response and QoL improvement especially regarding EF, fatigue and painful site symptom scales in patients with moderate/severe NP due to BM. Therefore, it could be an alternative to manage NP in daily practice.

10 kHz SCS for chronic postsurgical pain: Results from a 12-month prospective, multicenter study.
Chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) can be caused by peripheral nerve injury (PNI) resulting from surgical procedures and has a significant neuropathic component. This prospective, single-arm study was conducted to document the effectiveness of 10-kHz spinal cord stimulation (10-kHz SCS) as a treatment for patients with CPSP. ⋯ 10-kHz SCS is effective and tolerated in patients with CPSP, and further study of its clinical application in this population is warranted.
