The value of intraoperative nerve monitoring against recurrent laryngeal nerve injury in thyroid reoperations.
Reoperative thyroidectomy is challenging for surgeons because of the higher incidence of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) palsy. RLN identification is the gold standard during thyroidectomy; however, it is sometimes difficult to perform thyroid reoperations. In recent years, intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) has gained increased acceptance, and the use of IONM can be a valuable adjunct to visual identification. ⋯ The incidence of surgeon-related RLN injury rate was 0% in the IONM group compared to 7.7% in the VA group (P < .05), but the tumor-related or scar-related RLN injury rate between the 2 groups were not significantly different (4.3% vs 3.1%, 1.1% vs 3.1%, P > .05). IONM in thyroid reoperation was helpful in improving the RLN identification rate and reducing the surgeon-related RLN injury rate, but was ineffective in reducing the tumor-related and scar-related RLN injury rate. In the future, multicenter prospective studies with large sample sizes may be needed to further assess the role of IONM in thyroid reoperations.

Diagnosis and treatment of uterine sarcoma: A multicenter, real-world study in western China.
A detailed understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of uterine sarcoma in the real world is required due to its low incidence, high malignancy, lack of specific symptoms, and lack of high-level evidence supporting its clinical diagnosis and treatment. This study aimed to provide a basis for the standardized diagnosis and treatment of uterine sarcoma. It retrospectively analyzed the real-world data on the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of uterine sarcoma in western China. ⋯ A family history of tumors had an impact on disease progression; however, the way in which it affected needs further exploration. Different chemotherapy regimens affected the patient's disease progression. This study suggested that the anthracycline chemotherapy regimen was slightly better.

Early outcomes and long-term survival after kidney transplantation in elderly versus younger recipients from the same donor in a matched-pairs analysis.
The elderly are the fastest-growing population on waiting lists for kidney transplantation (KTx). Recognized barriers to KTx in the elderly is early post-transplant mortality and morbidity. To analyze the outcomes of KTx in recipients older than 60 years and, simultaneously, in their younger paired recipients, receiving a graft from the same donor. ⋯ After having excluded donor-derived graft factors, there were no differences in the first-year outcome of KTx between recipients younger and older than 60 years. As life expectancy is lower in the EKT group, the probability of patient and graft survival was also significantly lower in this group. However, death-censored graft survival was not different in the EKT and YKT groups.

Multicenter StudyPatterns of multimorbidity in 4588 older adults. Implications for non-geriatrician specialist.
Multimorbidity has been recognized as an important factor in geriatric medicine. However, its importance for other specialists is still to be fully appreciated. ⋯ The age-specific analysis of clustering revealed differences in prevalence and patterns of comorbidities, which stresses the importance of individual approach to older patients.

The efficacy and safety of different bismuth agents in Helicobacter pylori first-line eradication: A multicenter, randomized, controlled clinical trial.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of bismuth pectin capsules and bismuth pectin granules in the first-line quadruple treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). ⋯ Bismuth pectin capsules and bismuth pectin granules had similar efficacy and safety for H. pylori eradication compared to bismuth potassium citrate. These data suggest that bismuth pectin can be an alternative to bismuth potassium citrate to eradicate H. pylori when using bismuth-containing quadruple therapy.
