Noninvasive papillary urothelial carcinoma with pathological features in between low and high grades: A case report.
Urinary bladder urothelial carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor in the urinary system, and noninvasive papillary urothelial carcinoma (NIPUC) comprises most bladder malignancies. NIPUC grading is important for therapeutic and clinical protocol selection. Here, we report a case of NIPUC with pathological features in between low (LG-NIPUC) and high (HG-NIPUC) grades NIPUC. ⋯ We diagnosed this patient as having LG-NIPUC with local HG-NIPUC components. HG- and LG-HIPUC have different outcomes. This case is a new challenge for the pathological grading of NIPUC. An intermediate HIPUC grade might need to be added to the original NIPUC grading system.

As the most common type of cerebrovascular disease, ischemic stroke is the disturbance of cerebrovascular circulation caused by various factors, with complex pathogenesis. At present, the molecular mechanism of ischemic stroke is still unclear, and there lacks early diagnostic markers. Therefore, there is an urgent need to find effective preventive measures, active diagnostic methods and rapid treatment measures. In recent years, related studies have displayed that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) is related to the prognosis of ischemic stroke. However, the results are not supported by some evidence. Therefore, in this study, meta-analysis was used to analyze the relationship between lncRNAs and the prognosis of ischemic stroke. In addition, we carried out bioinformatics analysis to study the action mechanism and related pathways of lncRNAs in ischemic stroke. ⋯ DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/QBZW6.

Establishment and assessment of a nomogram model for predicting the risk of fulminant myocarditis: A STROBE compliant cross-sectional study.
We aimed to identify potential clinical predictors associated with the risk of fulminant myocarditis, and further to establish and assess a nomogram model based on significant attributes for clinical practicability. This is a retrospective, cross-sectional study, involving 28 patients with fulminant myocarditis and 35 age-, and sex-matched patients with non-fulminant myocarditis. Effect-size estimates are expressed as odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). ⋯ The contribution of the 6 significant factors to predicting fulminant myocarditis risk was significant from multi-angle analyses, and regressing these factors in a nomogram model exhibited good predictive accuracy, as reflected by both C-index (>90%, P < .001). We have identified 6 clinical factors in significant association with fulminant myocarditis, and their prediction capability was more obvious in a nomogram model. Further investigations with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up intervals are warranted.

Group A streptococcus (GAS) is a human pathogen responsible for a wide range of invasive and non-invasive infections. Pharyngitis caused by GAS may have complications such as acute rheumatic fever subsequently leading to rheumatic heart disease (RHD). RHD continues to have high morbidity and mortality and affects millions of children and young adults, mostly in developing countries. An effective preventive vaccine against GAS may reduce the morbidity and mortality. A 30-valent M-protein-based vaccine is currently at the clinical trials stage of development. Potential vaccine coverage will depend on the geographical distribution of GAS emm (M protein) types. ⋯ Fifteen emm types were identified, of which 92 was the most prevalent. It is concerning that 67% of the emm types are not covered in the vaccine currently under development. It is recommended that surveillance studies be extended to include other parts of the country in order to expand knowledge of the circulating emm types.

The relationship between serum uric acid (UA) and bone mineral density (BMD) has been proposed by several researchers. However, there has been no consensus regarding the relationships among serum UA, diabetes, and BMD. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between UA, BMD, and at least osteopenia in type 2 diabetes patients. ⋯ Setting the first quartile as the reference, the risk of at least osteopenia in the fourth quartile was significant among all patients (odds ratio [OR]: 0.75; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.57, 0.98) and specifically in females (OR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.43, 0.97), patients aged over 50 years (OR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.60, 0.97) and patients with a BMI greater than 25 (OR: 0.74; 95% CI: 0.47, 0.97). The optimal cutoff point for the serum UA level to distinguish at least osteopenia in diabetic patients was 395 μmol/L. Serum UA concentration is negatively associated with the occurrence of at least osteopenia in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes.
